I've noticed something recently, that the more time I spend browsing around here on these forums, the more stuff I decide that I need to purchase!

Anyone else noticing this phenomenon?

I admit, I became a bit obsessive with the Apple Watch (Owned 10 of them), that’s primarily my favorite Apple device I’ve owned, but if you have the financial means and the justification to want a ‘tech device’, I don’t see the problem with it. The only thing I would suggest, enjoy it for why you want it, not for every other reason that you read ‘why someone else has it’ on forums like this’.

Well I must admit the Every Watch Band thread had helped me increase my band collection significantly lol

Never noticed. Although I have bought quite a few things because I wanted to do what some other forum members have.

That said, I've gotten more stuff from members generosity than I've bought. I'm typing this on a 2008 MBP that was sent to me from a member in Germany. I have a PowerMac G5 Quad, a 2.7Ghz PowerMac G5, a PowerMac G3, a iPhone 4s and more parts than I could have ever imagined all sent to me from forum members. That isn't to say it's one way though, because I've sent parts and Macs out too. Just sent a forum member a ATI Radeon 9200 for his PowerMac G4 MDD the other day.

We all try and help each other out in the PowerPC section of MacRumors.

Nope. Good place for some honest reviews based on real-world experience... but I do exercise self-control. After all, how many computers and phones and tablets can one use concurrently?

Usually the forum interests me in products and has almost got me buying an M1 Air, but I read this and I think, hang on. This guy's using a 2008 MBP so why can't I carry on with my 2015 MBP?

Up until May I was using my Quad G5 as my primary desktop. Did everything I needed. I used my work Mac for work (2015 MBP). In May I got a 2009 MacPro 4,1. I updated the firmware to a 5,1 and it's running High Sierra - which is exactly what my work MBP is using. So, I'm able to do all my work from home on that Mac.

My primary Macs have all driven six displays. First my G4 Quicksilver, then a 2.3DC G5 (which I still have), the G5 Quad and now the MacPro I have. I've got a bunch of other Macs (PowerPC and Intel) all doing specific things.

The 2008 MBP? It's running Mojave. So is my 2009 Mac Mini. I used dosdudes patcher and they both work fine. I have a 500GB SSD in this 2008 MBP and it's formatted APFS. When it comes to my 2009 Mac Pro, all I need to go to Mojave is a Metal compatible video card - which I plan to get soon.

It just boils down to how much work you're willing to put into making old things do new tricks. And that's what's great about MacRumors. So many knowledgable people to help.

I wish I had that feeling..... Instead its more "I'm comfy where i am"

This forum doesn't make me want to buy things, but I do like what other people are thinking when it comes to Apple Products. However, everything seems to be about the Iphone 12 or speculation. There isn't much stuff on Car Play or Apple Music.

I've bought stuff after reading a review on the MR news section, but I either got good use out of them (like cases), or am still using them (like the Adonit Mini stylus I carry in my wallet).

And I recently read through a few threads about mechanical keyboards because I want to move away from the MacBook Pro to an iMac. I've ordered one with the full intention of using it until it doesn't work anymore.

When I learnt photography, they were telling us that the camera needed to feel good in your hands and you needed to know the ins and outs of how it worked, which really applies to a lot of other tools like the computers and phones.

Most people don't care about the actual app ecosystem like they used to. It's all about services and social media now.

It's the opposite for me. I'll get excited then read a thread nitpicking every little issue and I'll decide I don't really want it.
same here, i was bent on getting a M1 MacBook air all of 2020, but really have no need for one and no one really convinced me here that they are doing anything more like using an iPad only app on the M1 MacBook as stated by apple in these recent years.

I still enjoy the forums, post and see incredible photos every day and help those when i can.

I might want the item at hand, but I have enough self-control to ask myself 1) do I need it? 2) what problem does it solve? 3) Is it worth the cost (also, cost= work hours)? So most often than not I end up saying "man, it would be good to spend $500,000 on top of the line Apple stuff, but f- it who cares".

(this does not work for books. I see an interesting book and 50% of the times, I can't resist).

That's the one thing I haven't done so far with my new M1 MBP: use an iPad-only app on it! I know you can do that but I really don't have a need for it so haven't bothered experimenting yet....

Generally no but I want an M1 mini pretty bad but I done the Apple growing pains in the past so I'm going to wait until v.2 of the ARM Mini.

I have the exact opposite, when I spend time here, and I want to throw away everything,
I constantly read all my Apple devices are crap and are expensive Beta products, and I should have waited for tor the next iteration, and I also should be eating grass being an Apple sheep

It has gotten to a point, that I will buy all the new stuff that is not been released yet, and throw that away at once.

I also have to turn the volume down, as every body is shouting their opinions :)

You have to remember that forums are always going to be full of people with problems but it only represents a tiny portion of all users. Nobody is going on forums to post about how perfectly their devices are working. There's way, way more of those people than the people with problems.
