I just bought my new mac air 2.13mhs ssd and I love it. I had it on my table and a guest spilled there juice and it trickled over to underneath my air but before I could grab it got juice in the ports:eek: !! I was so mad so I immediately turned of flipped it over to let it trickle out. At first I was having trouble with my 3.55mm jack not working but after research on these forums I cleaned it out with a q-tip and it works fine now and so does the usb port. However I have not tried the dvi slot but I am hoping it is fine too. I just bought 2 days ago so Im still in the 14 day period of returns for a 10% charge. Do you guys think that there could be some more damage that can occur in the future due to this accident, or is it fine? A little bit of juice did trickle into bottom vents but I am experiencing no issues what so ever. I want to see if apple can clean but dont want to raise a red flag if I am going to return. 10% is almost 200 dollars so thats a last resort option. The complication with returning is that I got a free ipod touch with it so I will have to pay a restocking fee for that too I think.:mad:

I believe it would be classed as fraud to return it without telling them about the spill.

I would just take it apart and see. Chances are it didn't really get into anything. Clean it all and live with it. You aren't going to find anyone here to tell you to return it as it's unethical, and we don't want to pay higher prices from people doing this. Nor do refurbished buyers deserve to inherit your MBA.

Most importantly, did you lose the friend that spilled the juice? Or, is he buried in your back yard? JK. I think whoever spilled the juice could pay for Apple to clean and fix any damage.

    Good luck.

If there is no actual damage to the ports and you're fairly sure of that, then just keep the computer. Chances are you will never have any problem with the ports, but you might with other hardware (not related to the spill). Those areas wouldn't have been touched by the spill and as long as there isn't any obvious damage, AppleCare will cover those repairs.

IMO, that isn't dishonest or wrong in anyway, whereas returning it would be.

I hope you buy one that someone has spilled tomato juice on without knowing it. The bottom line is whoever gets that Mac next loses not Apple as they just resell it.

dont leave your iphone wireless function on that can access any wireless port that doesnt have security on it... as it will automatically steal internet you aren't paying for which is similar to stealing a car/returning your air for a new one.

if nothing is wrong the person who gets the "refurbished/fixed" laptop can't complain? and if there is something wrong then apple will fix it and sell it refurbed. if they resell it as new well then thats wrong of apple considering thats a fall statement and constitutes them as stealing a car/stealing internet!

I spilled lemonade all over my MBA and it turned out to be fine, after prying some keys off the keyboard and washing with some iKlear

Honestly, things should be fine --- if not, I would consider dousing your ports with iKlear --- again, liquid isn't as damaging as many think it is

Spill damage isn't always immediate, it may take months for logicboard to fail. I don't know how thoroughly they test refurbs, but if they miss it, the new buyer loses. If it fails and Apple finds any liquid got there, which they usually do if there was a spill, they won't repair it under warranty and charge ~$900 for a new part. Clearer now?
