Because she was mentioning making up a story about some traumatic experience that happened to her MacBook Pro. I was just checking to see if it even had a warranty left on it at all.

A traumatic experience sounds like accidental damage to me. Even if she bought the computer yesterday, the warrantee means nothing now.

Where are the stickers that turn colour when moisture or water come in to contact with them located on the 2011 17" macbook pros?

I doubt it will impact the outcome of your meeting one way or the other, but speaking as a guy who might happen to pass you on the street, or sit next to you on the bus, seductive clothing is always appreciated :)

LIQUIDS
As for the incident, I am sure you know that sensitive electronic equipment does not respond well to immersion. Practically speaking, I recommend you do what I do: keep liquids and foods as far away as possible from your computer. The only place liquid gets even remotely close to my computer is at the coffee shop, and even then, I have stuff in between the drink and the computer to mitigate the damage. I never eat near the computer. So far, I've avoided disaster. It is a pain sometimes, but I think it is worth it :)

INSURANCE
Poor students, in particular, need to look into renter's insurance. It is really inexpensive and will give you peace of mind.

THE GENIUS BAR
honesty is the best policy. No point in mucking things up. I'm sure they've had lots and lots of experience with liquid destruction, and wouldn't believe a tall tale anyways.

NEW COMPUTER
I have a new MBP 13"/8GB and I am quite pleased with it. From what you said, it looks like we do similar stuff. If you don't mind the weight and the extra money, the 15" would (of course) be the safest bet.

GOOD LUCK!

Well, I just got back from 2 NOT 1 Apple stores and it was a bittersweet adventure. The first Apple store I went to, I hated it. The genius bar nerd took one look at me and rolled his eyes (I wore my best Manolo pumps and day dress), then he prompted me to explain the situation with my macbook pro. He then went in the back to check if the logic board was damaged and he returned saying that it would need to be fixed as well as the top case of my macbook pro. He estimated it to be around $1340. I nearly fell off the bar stool and gave him a mere "thank you for your time". Not satisfied with the cruel fate of my macbook, I decided to go to another one not too far away from the one I was just at. This Apple store, I absolutely loved. The genius bar guy was super friendly and not bad on the eyes either, he checked my macbook once again and came back saying that he didn't see any obvious signs of liquid on the logic board and that the LCI wasn't tripped (I have no idea what that is). This is where the amazing thing happened. He plugged my macbook in and voila, for the first time in weeks, my macbook booted up! I was never more happy to see the grey apple logo screen. My keyboard was still buggy nonetheless, but an external keyboard quickly fixed that issue. Everything seemed to be running perfectly. The mac genius suggested that I get a top case replacement as opposed to Tier 4 repair (I have no idea what that is either). He said if that doesn't fix all of my issues all together, he'd give me a refund and then I'd have to shell out for a new mac or do the logic board replacement. $253.77 is the total repair cost. Should I do it? Or should I just buy an apple external keyboard?

Do it for sure. If you continue to have trouble you get your money back. Sounds like a good deal.

Hmm okay. Is the repair a only a cosmetic one? The keyboard is fine, it's just that it's not functioning properly. So if I get the "Housing, Top Case, with Keyboard" repair, will it address the circuitry or whatever causes the keyboard to function correctly?

Sounds like the keyboard itself is toast, so that would include a replacement keyboard and would fix your problem.

nothing beats being upfront! sometimes not telling any story unless they asked for it works too.. (let 'em figure it out..)

1300+ vs 260? id do it for sure really..

Call your local insurance comapany and purchase insurance just for the computer. It's cheap and it will cover spills, drops, loss, theft, you name it, as long as it is in your possesion and someone wasnt borrowing it at the time.

I do the bold print and it's never a pain when you avoid what it cost to fix.

Hi there,

Accidental Damage and Handling available at Best Buy's Geek Squad..

I bought the MBP 17" Pro 2011 at the Best Buy and the salesperson says recommended to get ADH program with Geek Squad. It's good for 3 years insurance coverage in case of dropped, spilled and etc they can fix it.

Apple Inc refused to fix anything that are not covered.. Don't buy at Apple Inc stores, go and buy at the Best Buy store then you can add the ADH for 3 years insurance coverage with Geek Squad Tech (every electronic stuffs).
