So, I spilled the glass, and the water went splash!

So, I shut it down, ran into the next room and took off the back cover after wiping down the surface as much as possible. Them I wiped down all the inner surfaces as best I could, and it seemed that I had gotten everything dry.

Then I figured, shouldn't I put rice on it?

So I emptied a bag of rice in it, only then realizing that all the little nooks and crannies are now filled with rice, such as the fans and god knows what.

So now what do I do? leave the rice? Take it out? And how do I get all the little bits out? I have a screwdriver for getting the back off, but I need a good toolkit to take out the other parts and get the rice out of the fans. I'm pretty sure there were no shorts and it should power on after i get all that damn rice out

any advice is appreciated.

That's terrible!

It might still be salvageable, as long as it didn't soak up too much water. Your main concern is going to be dust or grime attaching to the kernels.

My suggestions:

1) Dump out as much of the rice that you can
2) Rinse off the rice thoroughly with COLD water, to remove dust (use a colander)
3) Cook the rice immediately. Storing wet rice would be BAD.

Once it's cooked, you can refrigerate or even freeze it until you need it.

All's well

So, I got all of the rice out, let it sit with a bag of rice on the keyboard for a few days, and just booted it up and all is well! I sprayed some compressed air in it before booting, and I also had a brief scare when I booted it & got the three beeps. All that was needed was a reseating of the RAM and it booted fine.

Thank you for all of your help and advice

Nice to hear that. I almost thought that's the end of your MBP.

Glad to hear all is well. I freaked out when I dropped my Nexus into the sink, directly under running tap water, for a good 5 seconds before I yanked it. My heart stopped beating for a brief moment, in-ear speaker did not work for the first couple of days, speaker worked on and off, but everything is back to normal now. Phew.

For this reason alone is why I spent $20 on a keyboard cover, just in case.

Not gonna lie I LOL'd hard. Imagining you sitting there after spilling the water and then remembering the time you read on the internet somewhere, "Hey aren't you supposed to pour rice or something on your laptop if it gets wet?!" and then proceeding to dump a bag of rice all over your computer ROFL

I replaced the RAM & all is well!

Good to hear. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't put any water resistance on their notebooks (unlike HP and some other manufacturers), so to be safe I usually use a keyboard protector if there is liquid within eyesight (and especially on an airplane). I also have an insurance policy that protects against accidental damage.

As a repair guy myself, when I see rice inside a laptop I immediately think the laptop has liquid damage. Also Apple has some sensors inside that turn red when they come in contact with liquid or moisture.

So if ever take it to Apple I recommend you clean the machine thorougly and explain that the tripped "LCI" were caused by moisture if there are any red.
