Hi,
I ran the 'spirit' JB on my 3.1.2 3GS (activated officially) with the new bootrom, and everything went smooth. I then installed blacksn0w RC2, and as soon as I inserted an unofficial SIM, I got an error message - 'Different SIM detected, Please connect to iTunes'. Its stuck at the 'connect to iTunes' page, but goes back to the springboard as soon as I remove the SIM.

When it is on the 'connect to iTunes' page, in the top left hand corner, it shows that I have full cell signal from my unofficial SIM. There is no way to use an unlock with spirit? I did not even see any warning about this anywhere, and I do not have 3.1.2 SHSH backed up either (got the phone too late).

What is your phones baseband? If it is 5.11.07 remove the sim and install blacksn0w then add the unofficial sim.

It is 5.11. And I did exactly what you said. I activated the device, but I had already removed the SIM before running the JB. I then opened cydia, and installed blacksn0w, after which I installed the new SIM

From spirit's first page:
Do not upgrade if you use an unlock on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. (You can, however, restore to 3.1.2 if you have SHSH blobs for that version.)
This means no blacksn0w!

If you see 1 step above that, you will see that you need to do a clean restore before running spirit. That warning given is only to not upgrade to 3.1.3 if you need an unlock. At least, thats how I understood that line, maybe I'm mistaken.

If you are on 3.1.2 you can save your SHSH blobs with saurik just use umbrella there are guides on the forum. Then download 3.1.2 and do a clean restore and try to jailbreak again.

How do I get 3.1.2 SHSH blobs now? Hasn't apple stopped signing them since Feb? I used umbrella to save my SHSH blobs, but only for 3.1.3.

You could, but for the last 3 months you can't.
If you could still back them up, that means apple would still be signing them, and anyone could restore back to 3.1.2.

Sorry for giving misleading information. I thought if you had 3.1.2 you could save the SHSH for that with saurik then you would be able to restore back to 3.1.2 if saurik had the files.

Umbrella would only work 3.1.2 now if you had stored the 3.1.2 SHSH in cydia in the past, when apple was still signing it.

What are my options now? The only good thing in this is that this phone isn't my main phone. Will I have to wait till a new JB+unlock combo is released for 4.0? Or can I restore to a custom firmware since the phone is jailbroken now?

If I can restore to a custom firmware, should I select 'Activate' in pwnage tool?

If your on 3.1.3 firmware you cant unlock as your baseband will have been updated.
