Split payment across multiple cards with Apple Pay?

In this Apple support article it is stated that "If you don't have enough [Apple Pay Cash] balance for the payment, the remainder will be funded by one of your credit or debit cards in Wallet". Forget about Apple Pay Cash: would it be possible to make a payment across multiple credit or debit cards if the default card balance is not enough for the entire payment?

Apologies if the question has already been asked, but for the life of me I wasn't able to find anything.
 
In case anyone ever wonders, in the scenario I depicted above the payment gets rejected. I have just tried to pay a €8.43 bill with a default card balance of €7.25 despite the availability of a second card with more than enough money on it - no dice. Hopefully the functionality will be implemented sometime in the future.
