In Outlook you can split a window when you're composing an email, this is useful if you are replying and need to refer to text which is much further below as you are typing. See here to understand http://www.msoutlook.info/question/split-message-window

Can you do the same on mail? I have googled and cannot find anything, looked in the preferences of mail etc, but nothing. Its a very useful function and a shame if mail doesn't also have it!
 
What I mean is when you are on the message compose window you can split the screen into 2 and view 2 different parts of the message at the same time, i.e. some text right near the bottom. You do this by dragging a small line at the top. If it does make sense click on the link and you'll see what I mean (for windows)
