If you have a setup with 2 ACDs (pre Thunderbolt), is it possible to direct the Left Audio channel to the Lefthand Speaker of the Left display and the Right Audio channel to the Righthand speaker of the Righthand display ?

I am seeking a "software" solution, rather than a hardware cable/USB approach.

I have searched extensively online (without any success) and my local Apple store experts can not help.

Thankyou.

Audio MIDI Setup would be able to do this if it was possible. I know it's possible to send both left and right channels to both monitors, I'm not sure if you can flip off individual channels.

goMac is right. Unless you are using a 3rd party DAC to virtually route the signal, Audio/Midi setup is what can be done with Apple's internal sound card. Highlight the device and click on "Configure Speakers". There are Stereo and Multichannel options.

Hello goMac
Many thanks for your advice.
I have now managed to set up a "Multi-Output Device" in "Audio MIDI Setup" and individually set the speakers for each device and it works.
- Channel 1 from Left speaker of the Left monitor and Channel 2 from the Right speaker of the Right monitor. :)

However, to use this system I have had to select the Sound/Output in System Preferences to use my Multi-Output Device and this renders the volume control inoperable - so I am temporarily keeping the System Preferences/Sound window open on my desktop so that I can alter the volume of the 2 components of the Multi_Output Device. This works, but is not ideal.

If anyone has a solution for this, I would be grateful, but thanks for the advice so far.

Thankyou for your response also - which arrived as I was typing this reply:)

I have found a solution!!

I used a TV as a second screen display for playing a movie using VLC player. You can set the audio device on VLC as HDMI. On my Mac, at the top right corner volume output device set as Headphone then you should be good to go!!
