I was looking for the 4K Olympics reruns yesterday and I did not find them.

This whole conversation is why I'm still on 1080p (at least until a TV breaks I guess?)

I'm like 80% sports viewing and there's just very little reason to upgrade for my usage.

Also, my other 20% is movies and, yes, 4k movies look great...but honestly, Blurays and rips of them look amazing at 1080p to me still. It's basically just way more than good enough for me.

The 4k/HDR upsell is an even taller hill to climb than the SD to HD one was I think - at least for just normal regular people.

HDR makes a huge difference.

I'm sure it'll be nice if it comes along for the ride with a new hardware purchase, but it's just not enough of a feature to drive normal people to buy all new hardware though..

I find that tech oriented outlets and their users, like this one, frequently overestimate what normal people think or care about or even notice, especially when you consider the females in the household (generally - not always of course).

Yeah, it would have been nice if NBC and the NFL had broadcasted Super Bowl LII in 4K, but they didn't. I got my Sony XBR-75X940E after the Super Bowl, but watching the replay upscaled to 4K looked really nice.

DIRECTV did broadcast the Olympic Winter Games in 4K and 4K HDR on Ch. 106, 24-hour delay of course. But, WOW! The picture was awesome, especially in the Ski Jumping at night and Hockey and Ice Skating. And if you watched on the NBC Sports app on TV, the video was upscaled to 4K on my 940E.

So, hopefully, Super Bowl LIII will be in 4K HDR, but the 2020 Olympics Summer Games in Japan will be in 4K, as they're actually going to broadcast it in 8K in Japan.

So, there's hope...

And DIRECTV does broadcast other sports in 4K on Ch. 106.

Would be nice if we had a US network (either Fox or Univision whom I believe has US rights for Spanish language) announce they would broadcast the Soccer World Cup (next major sports event) in 4K.
We know the games will be captured and produced in 4K HDR.
Of course, then it would be up to individual users to get a service provider to deliver 4K, but as of now, in the US, I have seen no such plans for 4k broadcast of any/all games.
I did see a Hisense App discussion, where 4K feed would be sent to owners of Hisense 4K TV, but only a few models, very high end, like 3,000-5,000 USD type TVs.
Unless I missed something....
