I'm a Spotify user, but frankly, I'd love a better app (more responsive, more iOS like). Same on macOS (*#!;# electron).
Check out “Spotifyd” - it’s a rewrite of a Spotify client for macOS in Rust:

It uses 20mb of RAM not 2GB.

This reminds me of when Facebook got cought playing silent music, to be able to be always running on after the user left the app. You had to force shut it by pushing it up to stop it from running, and of course draining the battery. The silent music was done, because Apple allowed apps playing music to stay on in the background, of-course because users usually want their music to continue playing, but FB decided to play silent music and then could stay on up/downloading in the background what the user was doing.
Spotify owes us an explanation why it was doing so much work in the background.

EDIT: As, commenters have been accusing me of making this up, here is a link for those that can't or won't google it. As an iOS programmer, their explanation did not make sense of forgetting playing silent sound on. https://techcrunch.com/2015/10/22/f...kcPXnorOuftOBbtJ2yQF0nVW87lZIECYDXhM8GOwgdC82
OMG

NO. This is a good thing! If everyone starts using Spotify heaps and letting the iphones overheat, maybe it will catch mainstream media and Apple will get investigated

If you read the article then Facebook admits to it. I was being accused of making the whole thing up. But, you can google more stories about it. How many links will you need to believe the story?
Why are people so damn lazy. You expect people to go cite every reference of this happening to sate your cynicism. Sod off.
You're quoting an unreliable source as truth.
TechCrunch, which is a news site, said that Facebook admitted something?!
Yet provides dead links to alleged post. Any other links only circles back to TechCrunch...the only source for this story...from 2015...

Battery drain 😱 Definitely stop using the app till a fix comes. Maybe even consider deleting the app temporarily.

LAZY? I actually DID do my research and yet, I can't find anything that doesn't circle right back to TechCrunch's half-baked article... I never asked for EVERY reference...just more than 1 single (unreliable) source.

"Disagree" all you want, but I'm a reasonable person that would've like to have seen an official statement from Facebook, not just a TechCrunch report that it happened.

Just subscribed to Apple Music over this. If it's not fixed by the time my Spotify subscription expires in 10 days, I'll be cancelling and sticking with AM.

Good luck. I'll wait until they fix it. Currently using my free 6 months of Apple Music (from Verizon) and it's trash. So many bugs.

I don't use Spotify at all, but ever since 14.8 was installed on my 12 Pro I can barely make it to 5 pm before my battery is in the red. No fun.

Here is a source, but you could have found it by googling like I did, instead of accusing me of lying until I prove myself innocent. https://techcrunch.com/2015/10/22/f...kcPXnorOuftOBbtJ2yQF0nVW87lZIECYDXhM8GOwgdC82
Thank you.
I haven't accused you of lying, by the way, and I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I just needed a source before believing in something. I wanted to trust you, and perhaps share the info to other people, but if I didn't have any reliable source, that would not be credible and this is how misinformation spreads. We hear something and we pass it along without verifying.

I appreciate you taking the time to share it!

I am sorry for the harsh comment and thanks for clarifying.

It's been fixed. Download the latest version in the app store.

The update popped up for me this morning but said it was available 2 days ago. That’s good to know it is fixed. Now to see if my 13 PM has a battery issue still.

Those that think AM is better is brain washed.

You see, when Apple does software these days, they do it just enough to make it functional and make sure it looks pretty. Then they just leave it. No updates, no implentation of user feedback. Nothing.

mom not brain washed. I tried Spotify free trails. Each time when creating a playlist Spotify suggest random completely not even likeable music let alone music not being in the same genre.

Afro House, classic House, techno (not even its very different), acid Jazz, hip hop of 90’s or prior screws it up.

hip hop suggestions have improved. Some will reply saying hey that’s just free tier it’s better when you subscribe. I’ll say poppy-cock!

why create a faulty free tier to disuade potential customers away in the first place? Didn’t make any common sense. I need need all the junk of social sharing crap that Spotify has accelerated in. It works for a lot of people and that’s great, for them. I have no use for it.

Weird.

Once I updated it was fine. I listen to spotify all day at work and it's barely using any battery on my 13 Pro Max.
I guess my phone is just cursed, I do listen to it all day too. I will give it another shot, I did a normal reboot after the update so hopefully it is better.

I recently activated a 6 month free trial of Apple Music I got through Verizon. It's buggy as all get out. I keep getting errors about a "URL not being found" and it will just fast forward to the next song in the middle of a song. I googled it and have tried everything mentioned and it is still happening. I'm not sure if its an iOS15 bug or maybe Apple Music is just bad but it's annoying. Music will just stop playing for no reason or skip to the next song. I was using it on my drive home from work through the bluetooth in my truck (I don't have carplay) and it just stops playing for no reason. I tried to get it to work and eventually gave up. I thought maybe there was an issue with the bluetooth in my truck but it wouldn't work/play when I got home and wasn't on bluetooth. Eventually it started to work later that evening.

I give Apple Music a shot at least once a year or so and it's always BAD. I keep hoping they'll get better I guess. The UI is horrible. It still looks like iTunes from 2012. How have they not improved on this being a trillion dollar company?

I couldn't wait to download Spotify again after they fixed the battery drain issue.

that URL error doesn't sounds like an error that would pop-up inside the Apple Music app, but I don't have carplay either and unsure why it's doing that on your end ... but I suspect registering for a service via third party will always go through pains.

Just think early days of transfering your mobile # from one carrier another - usually took 24hrs initially and had several bugs like line would ring but not the phone/SIM device has within. or voicemail was not setup correctly with new carrier. It's much better now but initially had issues. I would always point to the 3rd party first before pointing to first party/host of service.

updating the app ... I don't work for Apple but I'd say the Spotify UI also hasn't changed much in the last 5yrs either. drastic UI changes tends to alienate users that are accustomed to using the current interface for services/products ... incremental changes have occured in Apple Music as I'm sure on Spotify, but blanket statement claiming no change has done is over generalizing and usually is incorrect.

It's still draining for me. I haven't even opened Spotify all day today.
