this? why do we need bazillion features that work the same i know that airplay is different than bluetooth but the average user wouldnt need anything more than bluetooth, and now spoitify connect too, why?

Because Apple only offers Airplay on their platforms. I suppose it is wrong of Spotify to add useful features to their software? Nobody is forcing you to use it. Use Bluetooth if it works for you. Spotify Connect and Airplay aren't going to cry because you chose Bluetooth over them.

This is not better than Airplay however I can see why they are releasing it as well as getting partners. Spotify is on multiple platforms, you wouldn't buy an Airplay compliant speaker unless you had Apple devices. You can buy now buy speakers that support the Spotify version wireless playing and not worry about having to be stuck with Apple to use it.

With Airfoil, you can choose one specific program (e.g. Spotify) for Airplay. The rest of the sound will still go through the default output. That's why I pointed Airfoil out instead of the native Mountain Lion Airplay support and it works exactly like Spotify Airplay would work.

I've used it, it's crap. Why? Laggy.

Start music in Spotify (5 seconds later) music plays on Airport. Change volume (5 seconds later) adjusts on Airport Express. Pause music (5 seconds later) Airport Stops playing Music.

iTunes is INSTANT. This is what I want, instant. Not this laggy 5 second delay stuff. I used Airfoil, it's crap.

If I use iTunes' Audio Airplay (NOT Airplay-Display-Mirroring of the whole system) it also doesn't work instantly, but always with a short delay until the music in the Airplay speakers starts - if I remember correctly, the music source is converted from the original source to lossless format first to not lose more quality. Same when skipping to a new track - always a delay/waiting pause. I have trouble believing that it is different in your case. I just tried airplaying from iTunes (again: using the symbol directly in the app) to my Zeppelin Air and my AppleTV - both have a short delay just like Airfoil. No difference. In fact, starting/switching tracks is even quicker with Airfoil on my system.

Already aware of this program but it isn't needed with Mountain Lion as that functionality is baked right in.

Airfoil lets you Airplay audio from all apps to multiple outputs. I use it with my Airport Expresses and Griffin Twenty amps around the house at a fraction of the cost of a Sonos system.

5 seconds? My lag is more like 1-2. At least the synching is perfect for multiple audio out from any application.

I agree with the comments that we don't need yet another way to stream music to other systems.

I love AirPlay and find there are a lot of speaker systems that support it directly--I use a speaker system form Altec Lansing and really love it. I also agree that ML does make some streaming easier but with the steaming service I use--MOG--I like using Safari and streaming through AirFoil. There are more options and configurations available with AirFoil so it is still a viable product. For those who like at least some fidelity in their music, bluetooth is not really a very good option since sound quality is significantly degraded.

Even if it is 1-2 seconds now, that is too long. These workarounds suck. Spotify should just give in and add it to their desktop software. They already support like 4 or 5 different wireless audio systems on the desktop app including sonos but they refuse to support AirPlay.

I will not pay for their subscription unless they add native AirPlay support to the desktop software that is as instantaneous as iTunes which pauses, plays and adjusts volume instantly.

Again, I don't believe your instantaneous playing/skipping tracks with iTunes airplay. Same 1-2 seconds delay. Pausing is instant.

For me, pausing, unpausing and volume control is instant. That is all I care about. Using AirFoil it is not, it is noticeably laggy and annoying and all interface sounds from Spotify go through it, not just songs.

If they want my money they need to deliver a good product. The desktop app isn't retina ready and it doesn't support AirPlay. If they want to be on the Mac platform they should support it properly.
