Thats good but really be honest...its not free across Europe is it.

Assuming you're referring to Feel at Home. And tethering is limited to 2GB from now on for customers...

Been free for me in France, Italy and Massachusetts? I haven't been told about any changes to my contract, unlimited as far as I'm concerned.

Me included ;)

Best music app out there, hands down.

Nope, that would be Beats Music #

----------

In what world does unlimited data NOT exist? Still not available in the US?!

My contract is <£15 per 30 days for truly unlimited 4G data, including unlimited tethering, and 2000 minutes, 5000 texts. No minimum term. Also free to use across Europe and in the US.

Wow, what company are you with!?

I quit using the music app years ago and switched to Spotify premium. Is Apple was smart, they'd buy Spotify, but they won't. iTunes is going to continue to decline as more people switch over.

One last thing hopefully one day there will be unlimited data plans this is on reason I worry about streaming music imagine while traveling it sure can eat a lot of data js.

With Spotify you can have a playlist and make it available offline - meaning it won't be using up any of your data when you listen to it :).

But so far (as far as getting rid of commercials is concerned anyway), iTunesMatch is considerably cheaper than Spotify 'Premium' at $9.99/mo.

But they’re not the same products. Spotify is a cloud-based on-demand music provider, whereas iTunes Match only provides cloud storage for your existing music library, in addition to iTunes Radio with only limited control. If you don’t intend to buy any music, iTunes Match will simply not offer you the wealth of music Spotify has.

Well if apple moved faster with iTunes radio here in the EU more would maybe be using match to avoid commercials thus bringing up the income... just saying

Nope, we have it here in Australia. I didn't even hear an ad for the first month, now I hear a 10 second ad every 10 songs or so.

Besides, you can 'skip' ads by building two similar stations and switching between them. This is also how you get around the limited song skips.

It's always fun to look back at the naysayers before a service was popular. They spoke with such confidence :D

Very true. Now imagine the naysayers who laughed at bigger sized phones, and said they had no potential, a couple months from now if Apple releases a bigger sized phone. It will be glorious! :D

I doubt it's unlimited. It's probably throttled after you use a few GB of bandwidth.

Nice trick with the 2 similar stations, did not know about that.
Well i live in denmark and we do not have iTunes radio yet, and i think that every one that i know is using spotify.
paying for match, allowing you to stream you music and listen to iTunes radio will be much cheeper for a year then a spotify subscription, and there is really no part of the country in which there is no wireless connection

Spotify Approaching 10M Paying Users, Revenue May Soon Surpass iTunes in Europe

No.

Although the ultimate internet add-on is new. I don't pay for that and still tether unlimited, for free. May be new customers that get stung with that.

3 offer unlimited data in the UK (with no fair use restrictions). I get 4G unlimited with 3 for £25 per month.

I'm using deezer :) but since Spotify went free on tablets I'm considering Spotify! It really is a great app!

1. It's free.
2. It uses less battery.(On your phone)
3. There are plenty of good stations, that is, where I am.
4. Is greener, no server farm involved.
5. You'll never know what they play next.(Which is a good thing to me)
a.s.o.

Except for #3, which is subjective based on where you live, all your other points are spot on. But you missed, I think, the more important points. If apple were to turn on the radio feature on the chip, they would have zero control of the experience and zero revenue. By having their own radio experience through the web, the can control your experience and they can provide you ways to purchase the music you hear, generating revenue. They also get revenue from the ads or from iTunes Match subscription. There is zero incentive, IMHO, for apple to turn on the radio, and quite a bit of incentive to keep it off.

As someone who buys all his music on CDs, Spotify is awesome for demo-ing albums before purchase. A total godsend. I don't blame them who subscribe.

Shame that the artists on Spotify only make a fraction of what they do through iTunes.

And it's a shame Spotify don't charge 19.99 or 29.99 dollars a month instead of 9.99 so they could actually be making a profit. Or that all of us make 100 000 dollars more each year. I'm not sure I see your point? It's a business model which will survive or die based on supply and demand.

Nice business model: royally screw the very musical artists that drive customer to your business in the first place, so that you yourself can have a chance of surviving.

As convenient as streaming music can be, I can't support a business model like that. I'd prefer that talented artists be able to make a living. Spotify is like digital feudalism.

I'm not sure how you don't see my point:

The article stated that Spotify's revenue could soon surpass iTunes in Europe.
I commented on how it's a shame that artists on Spotify earn only a fraction of what they do through iTunes.

My point is that while Spotify may generate more revenue than iTunes, the artists make far less, and that is a shame.

I'm not an expert on business models within the music industry, but is this really any different than what we usually see? The record labels take the big chunk. The difference here though is that the margins are much smaller.

I don't really feel sorry for the big artists, since they make most of their money by selling tickets. I guess the small ones are taking a bit of a hit.

And I presume you're talking about Spotify screwing the artists? The ones who should be taking the blame are the record labels. Spotify still haven't made any considerable profit as of this date.

You can support whatever you please. This is where the market is heading and it's simply a profit deal that consumers aren't going to give up. The golden age of selling albums like hotcakes is over.
