And most people can't hear the difference using their AirPods or other BT devices in their less-than-perfect environment. I'd say the ambient noise kills the "HD" part of the music for most people.
If you’re listening from your iPhone via anything other than a wired connection, you aren’t listening to HiRes audio. Apple does not license the couple of Bluetooth codecs which (only minimally) qualify as HiRes. If you want to listen to HiRes, you need a wired connection to a HiRes DAC and (preferably balanced) certified HiRes headphones or speakers. HiRes equipment has an expanded audio spectrum that extends above and below typical headphone/speaker ranges.

Exactly. Delete the number of “Free” Spotify accounts and let’s re-look at that “Market Dominance.” The company has NEVER turned a profit. How they are still in business baffles me. They are bleeding money with no real prospect of a turnaround.
The idea last years has been take free content, ie Podcasts, and try to have customers playing that instead of music by heavily promoting podcasts in their app.

They’ve added support for all the other smart speakers. This is an anti-competitive behaviour of Spotify’s side. Appl should sue.
Doubt they care. If anything it continues making me consider switching to Apple Music. When Spotify stops including free Hulu I’m probably gone despite the fact that they have perfected my algorithm.

Ive been a Spotify user since 2011. I gave up requesting things, I use it for music exploration and export music playlists I like to Apple Music where it plays nice with Apple hardware at a higher quality recording.

Wi-Fi disagrees.

Spotify is a superior app (especially on Windows) with superior playlist functionality, but when it comes to Apple Watch, AirPlay 2, and HomePod, I just had to give it up for Apple Music. I just can't stand waiting for them anymore.

I think this is the least of Spotify’s problems… you can’t even save specific tracks when saving an album… and hiding tracks doesn’t even sync across apps ….

Not many options for Hi-Res certified Wi-Fi speakers that actually have the expanded audio range. You can feed wired speakers through a Wi-Fi receiver, but at that point there is a lot of better options to feed them Hi-Res audio rather than your iPhone.
For sure

There's very few wireless speakers that will do full high res audio, and the ones that do, I'm not convinced any really have the expanded range given their configuration. Just the pixel war all over again "our speaker has bigger numbers than the other guys speakers".

Airplay tops out at 24/48 with (dual) Homepods anyhow. There's not alot of music thats going to benefit from anything higher, fewer people and seriously doubt it's anyway noticeable anyhow on common consumer speakers.

Lossless Airplay playback however though (even 16/44.1) is a huge step up from the sloppy mess of bluetooth (especially at any kind of distance) and is a benefit on capable speakers.

Maybe the reason Spotify don't want to add AirPlay support is because of just how bad many of their rips sound when compared to Tidal / Pandora or Apple music in an Apples to Apples competition?

I think it's because they have native app support on nearly any platform that actually supports Airplay, apart from the Homepod which nobody else cares about either.

I've tried most of the options for whole home audio - from Alexa Studio/Sub setups (not bad), to the Google speakers (awful), to Sonos (pretty good but not easily managed for frequently changing zones), original HomePods (poor), and now the updated HomePod/HomePod mini combo (really good). Until now, I would have said that the Sonos were best, but honestly with the latest updates to the hardware and software, Apple has gotten it right (if you use Apple products). Starting music, podcasts, whatever on a phone and handing off finally works consistently as expected, and selecting the HomePods you want to add to the current "playing" selection is intuitive. Adjusting different levels for each is easy as well.

Apple iPhones are the most popular phone on the market, and iPads dominate the tablet sector by miles. Macs are continuing to grow in their install base, so the likelihood that a family or home will have at least one Apple product is pretty high. When you add the HomePod to that and are able to actually experience it work the way it should... it's an easy sell.

That said, it's got "Lossless" audio (using Apple's ADAC format and codecs) and the Atmos sound field is nice when implemented properly (but is horrible on others); however, but it's not Hi-Res. I have dedicated headphones with a couple of Hi-Res DAC options or a high-end receiver and speaker/sub setup if I want audiophile quality audio from SACD's or WAV/FLAC files. But, to tell you the truth... for 75% of the music out there - there is hardly any noticeable difference from "Lossless" CD Quality audio and the higher-end options.

Except 21% of the market that owns a smart speaker (in the US).

Thats alot of potential Spotify subscriptions they are giving the middle finger to.

Spotify works fine on my cellular Apple watch using AirPod Pros.

Apple Music is much better. Spotify has promised features to its users for a long time, yet they have failed to deliver.
If only that were true. It may feel that way if you're heavily into hiphop, rap and today's teen crap. That's all it suggested for me regardless of what I wanted to play. Pop, rock, heavy metal, kizomba, whatever I tried I was one or two songs away from mainstream rap or Justin Bieber. Thanks, but no thanks.

Of course, that was only my experience during 3 months after I imported my playlists over from Spotify and tried to listen to any music.

Needless to say, I cancelled the subscription and have been without one since. Spotify is by far the better platform from the music point of view, but it doesn't provide the features I want and spends plenty of those subscription payments to antivaxxers and other idiots' podcasts so I'm not going to fund that, either.

I've slowly learned that I can live with my mp3 collection and just not listen to music when I don't have access to the ones I'd like to listen. Oh well. If only there was one decent service.

Apple has more music. It also has better audio quality. The interfaces are nigh identical. What?
I care more about the quality than quantity. Apple Music is full of rap, hiphop and teen crap. I couldn't care less of any of them. It's missing plenty of songs I had in my Spotify playlists. What's worst, it keeps playing hiphop, rap and other crap constantly to me no matter what I ask it to play. I hate that. If I want to listen to Bruce Springsteen I want to listen to Bruce - or something else that's similar. Not f***** Drake.

Apple Music is full of more music than Spotify. Period. Spotify has all that same rap. And quality… is better on Apple Music. And since you used Spotify, it learned your likes and recommended whatever junk you listen to that’s related to the Boss. That’s how they all work. First recommendations are top 40, popular present music. Not someone that was popular 40 years ago. Like how would any new service know you like oldies out of the box? Osmosis?

Apple music does not learn. It simply promotes to the masses.

Yeah. You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried.

My suggestions:
2000s metal
1990s
Essential 1980s Pop Albums
Hard Rock
1980s
Classic Rock

It definitely didn’t learn that from what I play, I guess.

Spotify, which I don’t use, suggests this:
Taylor Swift
Drake
Morgan Wallen
The Weeknd
21 Savage
Sza
Future
Bad Bunny
Lil Baby
Kanye West

Hmmmmmmmmm……… it’s almost like you need to use these things to have them make accurate suggestions.

I guess we have different experiences then.

And I do use both.
