This looks dumb. Why on earth would anyone with a phone want this? Especially with CarPlay. But even if you don't have CarPlay you could just get a car mount for your phone. Spotify already has a special interface it can display for driving.

And why is that knob so big it obscures part of the display?

It would be stupid for them to launch a device for your car. Most cars these days come with CarPlay and AndroidAuto. You can get plenty of aftermarket options as well.
There is no need for anyone to buy a Spotify only device, especially when you could even just mount your phone as well.
The one thing I want Apple to add on Apple CarPlay is Audio Movies.

I think Spotify is going down the podcast rabbit hole a little too far. People are use to free or supporting through Patreon. They are still trying to fix up their apps podcast features since acquiring Rogen. I downloaded for JRE just to find out their app sucks for podcasts. In my mind it’s already backfired.

Spotify is losing money with music streaming because of royalties. They overpaid for podcasts which are not driving subs up as expected. And now they are about to lose ad tracking in iOS 14.5. This dongle will capture user listening habits for advertising metrics because Spotify is running out of ways to monetize its users. They will eventually sink when all of the catalog artists have consolidated their rights with groups like Irving Azoff's Iconic or Primary Wave, and the royalty rates go back to normal.

As long as they don't notice, that I am not a Brazilian, all is good... 2,30€ per month for music streaming is just the >right< price. All above 5€, I'd rather copy it from the deep dark webz.

Instead of wasting time/effort on this device (which WILL flop), how about just working on:

- High definition music
- Landscape mode on iPhone
- Improved functionality for locally-stored files (you know, music NOT on Spotify that I want to listen to)

I, too, remember Slacker. Had the hardware player and everything.

Those were the days!

But yes, this, and their decision to act like podcasts are some exclusive unicorn, is asinine. Good luck, Spotify.
