I'm not saying you'll experience the same thing as I have, but the longer you stick with the service, the more the service will cater to your musical tastes.
My main issue is that Apple doesn't have anything remotely comparable to the Discover Weekly list. Apple's "New Music Mix" just contains recent releases that Apple thinks I might like. Spotify's "Discovery Weekly" OTOH also finds many older songs that I have never heard before, and usually 80% of the songs are spot on for my taste. I don't know how they do it, but it just works fabulously well for me. Apple's other mixes ("Favorites", "Chill") are nice, but useless for discovery, since they mostly (or exclusively?) contain songs I already know.

Besides that, if I want to explore, say, a new genre or artist, I love browsing all the user-curated playlists. Beats every algorithm I have seen so far. Again, Apple has nothing comparable.

Such has been said about Netflix too, yet they continue to do fine.

Keep in mind that Netflix changed the industry. Only 15 years ago, they were laughed out of the board room by Blockbuster video. And where is Blockbuster today?

But there is an important difference between Netflix and Spotify: Netflix continues to innovate and expand its opportunties. Netflix is funding and creating its own original content. In other words, they are competing head to head with network tv. What has Spotify done that is innovative? Are they funding or signing new artists or doing anything at all to expand beyond a limited subscription model?

Personally I don’t know why anyone would choose Apple Music over Spotify.

I switched from Spotify -> Apple.

The main reason was that the Spotify UI was just a total mess. There were lots of drop-down menus, and I found it really awkward to use while walking. I posted lots of suggestions on the official forums, where I found enormous mega-threads about the same issues, going back years, which Spotify apparently never bothered to address. I hated the queue management, which meant I often found amazing songs while listening at work and couldn't find them again later at home.

Also, Spotify don't have Apple Watch or TV apps, and some of the VIP radio stations on Apple Music are pretty good.

Obviously others may disagree, but those are the reasons I switched. I'm happy with Apple Music and don't anticipate switching away from it.

I doubt this will make a big change. I think rather existing premium users will seek for the discount than new ones wil be attracted...
