Spotify today announced it is rolling out a redesigned Apple Watch app with a "new and improved listening experience" that allows users to more easily browse music and podcasts in "Your Library" and more quickly download music for offline playback.

In a blog post, Spotify said the new design includes larger artwork, new animations, the ability to swipe to like a song, a blue dot next to new podcast episodes, and more. The new design will require an updated version of the Spotify app rolling out on the App Store — it doesn't yet appear to be available for all users as of this writing.

As noted by The Verge, Spotify remains silent about its Hi-Fi audio tier that it promised to launch back in 2021. Apple Music offers lossless audio at no additional charge.

Does this update require watchOS 9 or updates on watchOS 8 too? I have series 3 and wondering.

Maybe they should focus on optimizing the iOS 16.1 app first.. I've been using Apple Music almost exclusively due to the battery drain issues, and Apple Music is pulling way more data per song since I'm streaming in lossless. Kind of wild.

Nice! Spotify on Apple Watch is already pretty decent.

Now, I just wish they’d add support for Siri and HomePod.
Siri works for me with Beat's Fit Pro buds with the Spotify App.... but use the word "works" loosely concerning Siri.
"Hey Siri, play Blinding Lights"
"You don't have any lights set up."

Don’t see it in the press release but does anyone know which version this revers to? Latest one that seems available to me is 8.7.78.

Downloading tracks has been completely pointless because Spotify forces headphones to connect to the phone instead of the watch. Is this changing or is this just more talk?
Spotify watch app has for me been very annoying at times but fairly consistently ok for the last eight months or so. And I’ve not had the problem you describe.

What happens after you select the watch (as opposed to your phone) as the playback device? You’re not then prompted to choose your AirPods?

I can select my powerbeats but it’s actually routed through the phone. Even when i’m playing a playlist that I specifically downloaded to my watch, Spotify requires the web connection from my phone. It also stops playing music every time I start shooting video on the phone. If I cut mobile data on my phone, Spotify just shows an error message. No such issues with Apple Music. I don’t have a subscription but I can play music I’ve bought on iTunes and downloaded to my watch. I don’t even need to have the phone with me.

Of course, this is the wifi only version of the Apple Watch.

Spotify's Apple Watch app is total garbage - it frequently fails to play downloaded playlists.

Spotify couldn't be clearer that they're trying to punish Apple users with a suite of dodgy user experiences.

The fact they kicked off over no third-party Homepod access and now that it's available won't develop a third-party integration is hard proof that they're a bad faith actor.

That’s exactly what I suffer from the app.

When I select my watch, then airplay AirPods, the Spotify try to play music but crash and I get an message

It is scary how much Spotify vs. Apple Music, across the board. A $2+ trillion company should have the better algorithms, interface, user experience. The fact that they don’t and never have (as compared to Spotify) is just baffling to me. The same way useless Siri boggles my mind.
