Just wanted to get a feel for everyone else's experience using Spotify on CarPlay because, for me, it's not great.

Here's a list of my annoyances:
  • More often than I should, I need to unplug my phone and plug it back in for the app to launch
  • Often get "there was an error loading this content" or "please log in to Spotify" messages
  • The app launches, but is just an empty gray screen with the black menu bar at the top (also empty)
  • When the app does function well, it's almost always missing album and playlist art
I also have Apple Music (on a trial) and none of these things happen. I get it's a native app so would expect it to function perfectly, but was curious what experiences/perceptions you guys have?

Third-party CarPlay apps have been buggy for years. CarPlay itself is pretty buggy, although it has gotten much better.

I was thinking of creating a thread about my Pandora/CarPlay issues to see how other people's experiences with it has been.

I skipped iOS 11, so for the longest time, I thought my CarPlay issues had more to do with being on an older iOS and that these issues might be fixed with I updated. But I have been on iOS 12 for weeks now and a lot of the same CarPlay issues are still around.

For Pandora on CarPlay:
80% of the time, the app wont fully launch until I unlock my phone.
Sometimes it just stops playing after about 1 minute of listening, and I can't fix this without restarting both my car and my iPhone.
Many times, the playlists will not show up on the CarPlay screen, it just shows as loading.

There are many other issues too...

I was an early adaptor of CarPlay, which was extremely buggy at the beginning. It has gotten better, but I figured these type of bugs would be corrected after all these years.

Wow turns out this is quite a widespread problem! Been checking on Reddit and the Spotify forums and it's crazy how long these problems have persisted for, and how much finger pointing is going on.

It's things like this you just wish companies didn't go down the "reset your device, update your software" generic response and actually do something about it.

I wonder how many people have ditched Spotify for Apple Music because of things like this? I'm certainly contemplating it..

Spotify used to work great on iOS 11, but with 12 I get all of these problems.

I've reached out to Spotify and am going through some troubleshooting with them.

Same issues occur when using their test accounts so far.

May have to go back to Apple Music at this rate...
