iPhone Spotify pauses randomly on my XS Max.

I’ve had this phone for a week. Running 12.1.4. Random times I’m listening to Spotify with the EarPods, the music will pause. Pressing play does nothing until I unplug the EarPods and reconnect. Anyone else experience this?

Does this happen outside of Spotify?
 
The opposite is happening to me. For instance if I take out my airpods it is supposed to pause but it keeps playing really quietly yet it shows nothing playing on the Lockscreen or control center
 
This has been happening to me the past week or so. I have to go into the Spotify and press pause + play to start the music again, doing it via the lock screen etc doesn't fix it.
