This is why competition is necessary and essential and why one company (regardless if its Apple or not) should completely own a space. I want businesses to compete for our hard earned dollars. This includes longer free trials, more promotions/discounts, improving services and adding new features.

I always found it incredibly funny how passionate people get about their music streaming service. I like both Spotify and Apple Music for different reasons. I have apple because of the bundle deal.

The passion people argue for/against streaming services reminds me of the late 2000s/early 2010s during the "browser wars" when people would go to war over Chrome or Firefox or Opera or whatever being the best.

Just use what you like to use and dont worry about it. Never tried spotify? maybe take advantage of this sweet deal to give it a go.

Spotify is completely free to use... you only need to pay for the Premium if you want to download your songs offline or have unlimited skips (also no adds on your songs)
Wow....you state the point of no ads as a minor afterthought. I would hazard to guess that the vast majority of people who pay for Premium do so to avoid the ads which have certainly become more frequent lately. As someone who streams for a few hours daily, if I tried to save a few bucks and use the so called free service, I would likely be in an insane asylum in a matter of weeks

The ONE thing I love about Spotify is that I can adjust my EQ from within the app and it's customizable. I don't know why Apple can't get with that program and stop with these presets. I want to fine-tune my own audio experience.

I had Spotify for many years and just switched to Apple Music because I pay for the family apple one subscription. I like everything about Spotify better, except sound quality is slightly better with AM and the Play/Shuffle button of Spotify was confusing. I wish AM could better suggest new music (maybe I am not looking in the right place). Spotify seemed to nail that for me.

I took advantage of the 3 free months last year. The only thing I did not like about Spotify is that the SQ of the music whether you choose High or Extreme, pretty much sounds the same, at least to me.

When Apple was not selling a music service and they offered it for free, I actually preferred their audio quality. I also prefer the audio quality of YT Music vs Spotify. Besides that, their service is good.

This is a terribly unpopular opinion to express here on MacRumours, so I am braced for the usual incoming hate mail/death threats/fatwahs etc…

IMHO, Spotify is much better than Apple Music.

Main thing is I can control Spotify on my Mac by using the iPhone app. I come in from outside listening to something on Spotify and it picks up and continues on my Mac. Seamless.
You Cannot do this with Apple Music. It is not possible…

I have had Spotify for many years and cannot fault the suggestions of new music etc.

Spotify understands/has learnt I don't want to or need to listen to Hip Hop/Urban whatever that crap is that Apple keeps suggesting to me. (But if that is your thing, then by god, Apple will help you fill your needs.

I listen to Classical mostly and while Apple has the same catalogue as Spotify, the search function is dismal — often incomplete and just plain wrongly catalogued.

The iPhone control of Mac Spotify sounds like a pretty neat feature but for me personally I probably won’t see much use out of it. I typically just airplay to my Mac when I want to play though its speakers and tap my phone on my HomePod to carry over the music when I come home.

When it comes to recommendations it‘s probably because you haven’t used AM long enough for it to learn your likes/dislikes whereas you’ve spent years on Spotify. My music taste is similar and I haven‘t seen a single pop album in my suggested for a very long time on AM.

Yea it's definitely not as useful if you're using bluetooth speakers and so forth. But if you're playing through the Mac's speakers (I tend to do this quite often during the workday), it's very nice to be able to keep Spotify open on the phone to be able to quickly switch songs without having to bring the Spotify window up on the computer. It's one of those little details that most people probably won't even notice or use, but it's a really nice touch for certain use cases.

I also like how Spotify shows you the most recently added songs first in the "liked songs" list. That was actually the primary reason I switched away from Apple Music (I could never find the songs I'd recently added to the library without digging around).
