Spotify has announced music videos are rolling out now to Premium users in the U.S. and Canada, though the feature remains in beta.

The catalog currently includes music videos from artists like Ariana Grande, Olivia Dean, BABYMONSTER, Addison Rae, Tyler Childers, Natanael Cano, and Carín León.

Spotify says the initial video catalog is "limited" for now while the feature is in beta, but asks users to "stay tuned" as availability is set to grow "over the coming months."

If you're a Premium subscriber and want to check out music videos, open Spotify on you TV, desktop, iOS, or Android device, and a "Switch to Video" icon will appear above the song title in supported music tracks. Tapping starts the song from the beginning with accompanying video within the Now Playing view, which can also be rotated to landscape orientation on iPhone and Android.

To find additional music videos – including live and cover videos – scroll down to explore Related Music Videos, or go to an artist's profile and look under the Music tab. You can also watch by genre and era via playlists like 90s Video Hits, Hip-Hop Throwbacks, and Latin Party Hits.

Spotify first announced beta support for music videos back in March 2024, but the feature was limited to 11 markets including the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya.

In October, Spotify released a redesigned app for Apple TV that supports music videos, which had by then expanded to 97 countries around the world. Spotify says music videos will be available to all Premium users in the U.S. and Canada by the end of the month.

Previously, video content on Spotify has been limited to video podcasts and short repeating music video clips when a song plays. Apple Music has included its own music video catalog for almost seven years now. The feature was introduced with the release of iOS 11.3 in March 2018.

Maybe I’m a bit too old for this but we have youtube for that dont we?

I really cant see the benefit.
Err, yes, Google and Spotify are building competing music platforms. You're happy with the one you're using, but competition usually makes things better for everyone.

One benefit of Spotify would be the price, IIRC.

Content is very limited and at best will only ever be for all the sanctioned fully licensed videos. But for most live recordings and remixes YouTube will remain the go to since different business models. YT lets anyone upload most anything and then only removes upon detection or request and when that happens someone reuploads from another account. So for us who love remixes, live versions etc YT/YTM will always be the better content wise. Unfortunately YTM is the worse app of the bunch with Spotify and Apple Music leaps ahead. So while there is competition Spotify and AM will never have YT content, and YT will never be a company focusing on best in class app interfaces and Spotify will most likely remain anti anti Apple. Unless one of the companies is sold or laws change making YT content no longer legal etc.

I’ve had this feature for months now, so I assumed it was already rolled out globally. The other day I had an asado (argentine bbq) with friends and noticed they were using Spotify’s music videos instead of YouTube. I’m not sure if Spotify is running actively its A/B tests in Argentina, but it often happens that when I travel back to the Netherlands, certain features disappear, then reappear again after I’ve been back in Argentina for about a week or so. It also happens with some Instagram features.

I like the music video feature, but I agree that YouTube videos are still better than Spotify’s music videos.
But most artists have these music videos on their songs, like Dualipa, Rauwe Alejandro, AC/DC etc

Unless there's exclusivity, Youtube's going to be preferable to the widest audience. Certainly when it comes to casual discovery.
And exclusivity to Spotify is a scam for all but the highest-streaming artists, so I hope few of the small ones would do it without a huge up-front incentive.
On the other hand, it's nice to have something other than lyrics or a 15 second clip to look at when using the Spotify music to play music. I still miss the old WinAmp and iTunes visualizers.

Good to hear for those who like videos with their music. I prefer Spotify over Apple Music any day of the week, better selection of music and much cleaner UI. Only possible of using Apple Music again is if they reintroduced Cover Flow.

Im baffled that Spotify didn't have music videos in the first place and took until 2025 to add them. AM has had it since it launched in 2015 lol.

Why is that weird? There is a cost to storing all that video in the cloud.

Apple Music charges for everything and they even nuke all of your playlists if you unsub

Apple Music doesn't charge anything for music videos? It's weird because music videos are a feature every music service should have other than the music part. Seems like Spotify is more worried about trying to charge or upsell the premium subscriptions so when they raise the price soon, it feels more worth it, just like the several year delay to deliver high quality streaming.

I am completely in favour of competition. All the apps have their pros and cons, and each still has room for improvement. For instance, I despise the UI and UX of YT Music and while I find Spotify better in that respect, it is too cluttered. It tries too hard to be a super app for everything, including music, podcasts, audiobooks, and music videos, which makes it feel bloated. It almost feels like WeChat of the music apps.

I sometimes watch them on apple music when I dont want a heavy compressed version, or do a "MTV-like" channel using the apple music app on the TV
To be honest I have never used that feature on YT Music and AM. I wasn't even aware AM has such a feature 😅

No ads. I like to watch music videos, often at least a few in a row, on my tv. I always use Apple Music to watch them because otherwise I have to sit through ads on YouTube each time a new video starts.
I have YT Premium so I never see any ads and I use DeArrow and SponsorBlock in browsers when I want to watch anything with a sponsor embedded in the video. The only time I cannot use these tools is on Apple TV as it does not support this type of add ons.

Yeah, but you mentioned you couldn’t see the benefit of this feature.

The benefit is you get ad-free music videos included in your Apple Music or Spotify subscriptions without paying a separate YouTube Premium subscription.

Yeah, but if you don’t pay for YouTube Premium, the point is you get ad-free music videos included in your Apple Music or Spotify subscriptions.
But I thought Spotify’s free tier has some kind of ad system, doesn’t it? How are they going to support that amount of data and streaming for free users?

Apple Music has no free tier at all, as far as I know.

But if your point is to stop paying for both a music service AND a video service, then yes, I can understand that.

Yes, the fact you wouldn’t have to pay for two separate services to get ad-free videos is the benefit imo.

Music videos are exclusively a Spotify Premium feature according to the article.

Lots of artists don't release music videos at all nowadays. And when they do, it's often lyric videos which is a shame.
