spotlight and control F, not finding obvious

Looking for a folder on computer,
Tried Spotlight and it could not find it.
Tried Control F and it could not find it.
opened up HD and found it clearly listed. this is what I had to do
with OS 8 but I would expect 10.8.4 to have a finder better than OS 8!
Is there a fix for this inability to find much of anything?

I use FindAnyFile. Spotlight excludes a lot of system folders, very annoying.

If this is still an issue try Re-indexing your drive.
