Spotlight how to index an external disk

    hi
    today i re-indexed my iMac and got spotlight to actually work...didnt before..so horray on that..thanks to article below
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2409

    however does anyone know how i can also re-index external hard drives??
    so spotlight search them to

    The same way you index an internal drive.

    Hi
    Yepp thats what I thought but it don't work...
    when I add my external HD to the Privacy list I dont get any menu as with the Macintosh HD...and when I remove the external drive from the privacy listing and close spotlight...nothing happens???

    If that fails to index, enter the following command in Terminal:
    sudo mdutil -i on "/Volumes/your drive name"​
