Spotlight Indexing Time Machine?

Is it normal for Spotlight to index my Time Machine drive every time it's plugged in? I remember Spotlight doing the occasional index, but I just don't remember having to wait for Spotlight to index every single time it's plugged in.

It indexes for a few seconds whenever I've plugged in my Time Machine drive.

the Time Machine icon appears on the external drive after the index. only takes a couple of seconds. just leave it plugged it.
