I have feedbacked this to Apple. More people should do this. I cannot imagine it being something difficult for them to implement (i.e. by default it don't search in these folders but users can tick a box and search there by default if they like)

Not being able to easily search the library is a royal pain in the @$$. I agree that Apple should simply add a check box option in the Spotlight system preferences to search these directories.

I'll also leave feedback at the aforementioned URL.

I've just left my own feedback for Apple. Not being able to search plists by default is a stab in the back. They did this to give Spotlight the "appearance" of being faster. But Spotlight is in fact NOT faster when we have to jump through hoops to search for the basics.

I can find apps and other such files easily on my own without Spotlight. But finding one plists in a long list of hundreds is a major problem that requires some help. And yet, Apple doesn't help me by default! How wicked of Steve Jobs to have allowed this to get through the beta process. And those of you who beta tested 10.5 and allowed this to slip through, shame on you!

Good to see there are more people not liking this. I too just sent Apple feedback on this issue. More people should. Maybe we get lucky and they fixed this for 10.5.2...

Spotlight: Tiger vs. Leopard

I posted two videos in this CubeOwner thread that show yet another Leopard Spotlight problem: default search location. That problem is even more painful for me than Leopard's spotlight not finding plists by default. No doubt it is to many of you as well.

Yep. This is a big deal.

I wouldn't mind category headers again too. Then you could collapse the silly Safari history item returns. That is something I dont need to search.

yep the tiny show all window with no headers that cant be kept a decent size and not being able to search for library files is very annoying. im going to add feedback.

Its even easier if you save your search...

Hi,

I had the same problem and found the workaround using SL from the finder including the system files option... its still a pain, but it gets EASIER if you "save" the search and add it to the sidebar. Then you can re-use it. Simply select the saved "System Search" from the sidebar, type your query into the finder spotlight and then select the button "Searching Systems Files" instead of "This Mac"...

Rgds,

Tom
