Spotlight wont search

Spotlight hasnt been working for me lately. I click the magnifying glass in the menubar and type what I want in. The box then shows that little loading circle(not teh color pinwheel). The window then closes.

I tried resetting Spotlights index but that didnt work.

What can I do?

Maybe drag a file named com.apple.spotlight.plist to your Desktop, restart and then try reindexing again. Just out of interest, are you reindexing using the Privacy tab of the Spotlight System Preferences?

The preference file is in your user library's Preferences folder.

i had this problem too, i tried to use spotlight early during bootup after 10.4.5. simply restart and wait a good few mins, then try.

Didnt work.

I can use spolight via the search box in finder windows but not the box from the menu bar.

It happened to me, too, but a simple restart and some time fixed it.

Well, how exactly did you try reindexing?
