Got a question for you spreadsheet gurus. I'm no good at this stuff...

I have 2 columns. Column A is a range of numbers. Column B is a specific word relating to the number of the same row of Column A.

I want to make an equation to add all the numbers in Column A if the word in Column B equals ... whatever I want it to be. Here's an example of the data:

A B

3 red
6 green
2 red
7 red
2 green
4 blue

And here is the outcome I want... Add all red = 12. Add all green = 8. Add all blue = 4

Well, I don't know, but the answer is gonna depend on which application you're using, and maybe what version. That is, unless Edgar Cayce is a member here and happens to read this. ;)

What program are you using?

In Numbers from the iWork suite there is a function called SUMIF (There is probably one in Excel too if that's what you are using).

Check out the Function Browser under

Insert >>Function>> Show function browser

and search for SUMIF.

It'll give you exactly what you need, sorry I don't have time to type it all out :)

Hope this helps.
