Legere controls it. The end. Problem solved. as an 8-year Sprint customer who just switched to Verizon this past Thursday, who held on because Softbank was supposed to fix Sprint, I say sprint needs to get the hell out of the way and let T-Mobile take over its network. It's absolutely ridiculous. Legere resurrected T-Mobile from the dead, Sprint is dying... let Legere take control.

I'm glad this is falling through consolidating in any industry is generally bad for consumers

99% of the time I agree with you and this statement- but Sprint simply cannot compete. We need a merger to bring competition.

Nah, they're the ones who started the carriers' attack on net neutrality. Screw 'em. Anyway, just like everyone else, they still sell their services way above cost, and they decrease prices if they think they can make a higher profit that way. Their CEO is great at marketing and managing, that's it.

The only thing "uncarrier" was when they became the first to charge differently for different packets, and it's gonna suck. Verizon already started taking it a step further...

Finally someone that can see through the fog.

Given that since SoftBank bought Sprint in 2013, Sprint has had all of two slightly profitable quarters, and zero profitable years, hemorrhaging something like $10 billion, I would think the last thing SoftBank would want is to be running the newly merged company.

I mean, seriously, if your management has lost money for five years straight while the company you want to merge with has been on an upward trend that entire time, I’d think priority one would be not running the merged company.

But then, if SoftBank made smart decisions they’d either be making money with Sprint or never have bought it in the first place. Why start making good decisions now?

Sprint is a disaster. All it does is loses money. I worked for them as an engineer before they laid off the entire department in early 2003. They had lost $6 billion and had a big bust with Sprint ION back then. Sprint PCS back then was horrible, and even with the employee discount, it was not worth getting Sprint PCS. Fifteen years later, Sprint is still a disaster - both on the telecom side and the cellular side.

You must be fanatic of John Legere although he did great on T-Mobile, all the things that coming out from his mouth is just marketing ploy most of the time. Their network still terrible unless you live in a big city. Try go camping and you’ll thank AT&T or Verizon for their network coverage. Unless T-Mobile fully implemented the low band all over the country they are still playing catch-up.

To camp with Sprint you must be an urban outdoorsman. T-Mobile has decent coverage in the Southeast. I've traveled with T-Mobile in GA, AL, and FL, and it's good. In many places, the coverage is better than AT&T (which I used to have). Now, if you go to remote mountains of north GA or North Carolina, then T-Mobile coverage is not good, but neither is AT&T coverage there. Verizon is known for being decent (not great) in the mountains.

Where T-Mobile shines is when you travel to Canada or Mexico. You get a first-world coverage (much better than Verizon in the US) for no additional price, and that includes LTE data and LTE hotspot. It is sweet when you cross the border and don't have to worry about being gouged by your cellular carrier.

So you know what's in his heart? His actions say he cares about the consumer and it's what has helped the bottom line. He literally stood up to DT to implement his version of what the company should be like and it paid off in aces.

What? Are you really bringing emotion into business? John is the CEO of a multi billion dollar corp. Make no mistake. He is not the CEO because of the kindness in his heart.

Please take that logic to the iPhone preorder threads. There is only 1 emotion in business. Its starts with a P and ends with a T.

Good. T-Mobile brought a level of competition to the US Wireless market that we never experienced before. If they merged with Sprint and Son took control I could definitely see the market becoming like Canada and all 3 carriers basically colluding on pricing to fleece customers. I think this "Uncarrier" T-Mobile has been the first time that I've seen people actually say that they like their cellular carrier.

I had Sprint with an ex-gf back in 2004 when we both got the Sanyo SCP-5500. Navy blue. First phone I owned with a video recorder. I was also on Cingular at the time using a Sony Ericsson T616 and then Motorola V600 3.5 months later.

For a time, I did like Sprint. I asked people I sell phones to why do they like Sprint? They usually tell me because they are grandfathered in for years or they have family in Puerto Rico and Mexico and easier to make calls to them. Sprint also uses same bands as Canada and Russia even though I don't care. I don't go there or know anyone that lives there.

I only care about DOMESTIC compatibility. Sprint is the outcast of the four here domestically. Verizon is the O-negative blood, universal donor with AT&T and T-Mobile. Sprint is also not the cheapest. I sign up for a Freedom Plan and the price will go up a certain date and there are taxes. TMo is just a flat rate of $70. Legere is flamboyant like Bezos.

For me, the only two aspects I look for in any carrier is which one has the best price and which has the best signal/coverage? Neither AT&T and Sprint are #1 in any of those areas. #1 Verizon is superior to #2 AT&T in signal quality. #3 T-Mobile excels in value and data speeds better than #4 Sprint. I felt like I was on 3G speed all the time on Sprint.

That's why I ignore AT&T and Sprint. I was on AT&T the longest and used Sprint twice. If neither one are #1 in those aspects, bye!

Watch out for left field.. Softbank now is a "rejected bride" (and has ready funding to hookup with just about anyone on the dance floor)

For the last 10 years the telecom industry dream has been lots of customers who will buy "the triple bundle" (Digital landline telephone, TV, and Home Internet). Everyone is happy. Customers love the discount. Shareholders love the revenues...

..then a giant Godzilla beast called "AT&T' created the "quadruple bundle" (Digital landline telephone, TV, and Home Internet AND (#4) Wireless Mobile).

.. not to be left out in the cold.. COMCAST and Charter/Spectrum/TimeWarner/BrightHouse have signed agreements to join the "quadruple bundle" club in 2018. Both have MVNO deals with bride of Godzilla, Verizon, to sell Wireless Mobile next year (over Verizon's network).

Look for Softbank to get hitched with one of these two giants (COMCAST or Spectrum) to avoid MVNO hell..

Keep it that way. We need the competition.

I'm sorry, but it's a two man race between AT&T and Verizon with T-mobile owing it's existence to large cities. The moment you leave major cities, T-mobile reception is garbage. They aren't a threat to AT&T or Verizon.

A Sprint and T-Mobile merger would actually have been good for competition if T-Mobile had a controlling interest and got to keep their CEO.

Have you checked T-Mobile lately? What you are describing is T-Mobile of the past. T-Mobile today works in small towns, off the beaten path, on the beach, etc. better than AT&T in many places. T-Mobile LTE speeds are second to none; not even to Verizon.

Verizon still has the best coverage of the four carriers, but if you live (and travel to) areas with solid T-Mobile coverage, T-Mobile is a clear winner when the entire portfolio of services is considered and not just the coverage.

I happen to travel to Canada quite a bit, and no US carrier beats T-Mobile’s offering in Canada. It changes the way one travels when the entire anxiety about one’s mobile coverage and associated expenses is completely gone and one is totally at ease, knowing that one gets the best coverage and LTE data for no extra cost.

Story of two carriers: just a few years ago both T Mo and Sprint were distant third and fourth

T Mo reinvented itself, came up as legit third option, and shaker the whole industry

Sprint stool still, now a distant fourth

If they merge, T Mo CEO and DT should run the show.
