I'm not saying it would be completely worth it for Sprint, but hey, they can bet on it if they want ... I actually have Sprint service now, and like it. It's better and faster than AT&T where I am - and cheaper.

No matter what, I won't be getting a Sprint iPhone though ... I'm quite happy with my SGSII.

I just saw the SGSII today and if the new iPhone, whatever it will be called, isn't as good, then I'm switching.

There WILL be a redesigned iPhone 5 tomorrow. Period. :)

We shall see...

I doubt if Apple would use the S to designate Sprint. That would be carrier-specific branding which Apple doesn't do.

Remember, Apple thinks of mobile operators as dumb pipes, nothing more.

Apple pretends to think that way, but they've shown that they were willing to hold back 3G features until AT&T could handle them, and to listen to other AT&T advice.

That's what almost got them in hot water back when the FCC asked who was in charge of some decisions and Apple and AT&T kind of pointed fingers at each other.

This will be the end of Sprint if it's true. Their networks sucks worse than AT&T's and they are bleeding to death with customer loss.
They're losing customers only (Mostly) because they don't have the iPhone and as far as service you obviously don't know what your talking about. We have had Sprint for 11 years. And over the years the service has become rock solid. We don't drop any calls, we get service everywhere we go and 4G is actually quite fast. I've traveled from the east coast to the west coast and from the north-east down to Florida and no matter where I used my phone it worked perfectly.

This is why I never left Sprint just to get the iPhone. That and their pricing which no one can touch. I can't of course say it won't change in the future but as of now they are the best carrier to be on.

Waiting has finally paid off :)

I swear to God if Sprint gets iP5 before the rest of us I will personally shove my iPhone up Steve's butt. I have been a loyal , tried and true AT&T customer for three years and if this happens it's a slap in the face to me. It's been 16 months since I bought the iP4 and think that I am more deserving of the newest hardware than these Johnny come lately Sprint clowns.

But I do know what I am talking about. Sprint has been bleeding for years. Poor network, poor customer service, poor reputation, poor 4G coverage.

The difference between a WiMAX iP5 and an LTE iP5 would be such a small production difference that you'd never notice unless it was marked for you. We're talking about the carrier chip, not the iPhone hardware.

a WiMax device is a failing standard that no one but Sprint uses and they have been talking a lot in the past year about ditching it for LTE.

Last I heard Sprint was hurting financially. Do they even have access to $20bill USD?

That is a great question. They only had less than $4B cash on hand at the end of the last quarter and over $16B in long-term debt. Their cash flow last quarter was less than $300M.

Nothing in any report I've seen says they have to pay it upfront. They have only committed to buy 30 million phones over the next 4 years. However, say 1/2 their contract subscribers jump to the iPhone in the next 12 months, that is a $10B check Sprint would have to write.

Therefore, their ONLY choices would be to:

1. Sell off assets (and since they are the only major carrier who hasn't received a takeover offer, it is a sign they don't have many attractive assets)
2. Take on more debt (to increase your debt load by 75 - 100% while you are currently bleeding net income may be Sprint's death blow)
3. Increase revenue (doubt it will come from massive subscribers jumping from AT&T & Verizon, to Sprint's only option would be to raise rates which kills them because their only real play is as the value network operator).

Welcome to corporate America, where (IF true) $20 billion goes a long way further than your self-claimed entitlement.

Although personally I don't exactly see why you're more deserving than anyone else. Those who pay for it, deserve to own it, plain and simple.

really? so where does it say "Sprint Commits to Buying $20 Billion Worth of iPhones, To Get Redesigned iPhone 5 Exclusively"

show me where it says that. thanks

The link's headline now reads : Sprint Tumbles After Report of $20B IPhone Deal

In your defense, the original headline that you must have seen could have been interpreted as Sprint declining the rumor.

Well, if Sprint really did shell out that much for some kind of exclusivity, then it bodes well for some version of the iPhone to come to Virgin Mobile. At the end of the day, that's all that matters to me!

You don't "deserve" anything. And when will you realize that AT&T doesn't care about you and that it doesn't matter to Apple what you think? When was the last time any big corporation did something because they cared about their customers? Your sense of entitlement is comical. I've had to wait since 2007 to get an iPhone and not once did I curse AT&T Verizon or their users. It is what it is. Plus you don't know anything for sure yet. Could be that everyone gets the iPhone5 tomorrow.

I can tell you that living in the home town of Sprint and also having a spouse who works for them that this is completely ridiculous. I think we will get the same thing the others get, no more, no less. And I can promise you, we don't have 20 billion dollars to purchase phones with!! That would be company suicide be committing to such ridiculous terms. Hell Sprint lays off every year now because of money issues. There is NO WAY the company would recoup that much money. The iphone is good, but not that damn good!!

I cant even see it being released first on Sprint for say the first few months.

Just cant see it!

iPhone 5 will be on AT&T and Verizon.

yay, have fun with that. I have one and hate it. Oh, and I'm sure Apple won't miss you.

I know Apple doesn't care about me. It doesn't bother me one bit. I'm just not prepared to pay $200 and a 2 year contract for a "faster iPhone4". That's just me.

What don't you like about your SGSII?

I am starting to think there will be a 4S and a 5. They will both have the same guts but the 5 will be in a new form factor. This will give people a little more choice in what they want and allow Apple to charge a premium for the latest looking phone. Also, it would help Apple break from the yearly update cycle. This way they can release an LTE version early next year called the 5S without pissing off too many people.

Oh, you can bet on the fact that releasing a new version early next year will piss off everyone that buys one as soon as it becomes available this fall.
