My daughter has an android transform (it's on it's 'last leg') - she has been on a Sprint family plan for years. YDay she tried to upgrade to the new iPhone 4S and was told she would have to pay, not 399.00, but something like 600.00+ (this, to my knowledge is some sort of 'retail' price, I had believed nobody actually pays). Can anyone explain this? Essentially how a long term established customer can be made to keep a, basically useless phone or pay a crazy price (as her only upgrade option)?

That would be the same Samsung Transform that was announced just about a year ago? She will not be eligible for another "Subsidized" phone until she's had her current one for 20 months.

Like the others said, given that the Transform was released on Sprint in Oct 2010 and assuming your daughter got the phone right away, she wouldnt be eligible for an upgrade til June 2012 (Sprint's full upgrade is available after 20 months) so just see when your daughter got the phone and add 20 months to that.
