Sprint today announced that well-qualified customers can lease an iPhone 8 with 64GB of storage for $0 per month after bill credits with the trade in of an eligible smartphone, including the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and Galaxy S8.

With the trade in, Sprint will waive the regular $29.17 charge for 18 months. After at least 12 lease payments, all of which are covered by the promotion, customers can trade in the iPhone 8 and upgrade to a new iPhone.

The limited time offer appears to be available to both new and existing customers who activate at least one new line of service.

Sprint is also offering 50 percent off the 18-month lease of an iPhone 8 to customers who trade in an older smartphone, such as an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, Galaxy S7, or Google Pixel.

Until October 31, 2018, Sprint's unlimited talk, text, and data plan costs $50 per month for the first line, and $40 per month for the second line, with up to three additional lines for free with AutoPay and paperless billing.

"Unlimited" has some caveats, including a max of 1080p for streaming video, 1.5 Mbps for streaming music, and 8 Mbps for games. After 23GB of usage in a billing cycle, data deprioritization applies during times of congestion.

Sprint will waive its $30 activation fee for customers who order online or by phone. There may be additional taxes and fees.

I switched last year and got my 7 for free (via monthly credits). Might think about this, but previously wasn't even interested in the 8. I came over from AT&T. There is definitely a difference in the network - while I've not really had issues with getting a connection anywhere, it is definitely slower. But I'm paying half of what I was with ATT. So far, it is worth it - have saved almost $1,000 in a year.

Yeah, I always wonder about the network quality. Things change and once you are labeled as "the worse," it's hard to overcome it. T-mobile was the worse carrier not too long ago. Today I believe they are one of the best in terms of coverage and reliability. Speeds are the fastest in the nation, independently confirmed.

I would consider trying Sprint, but T-mobile offers such a good value that there is little incentive to switch. It sounds like Sprint is improving and that's great for everyone!

So many people are on these leases and still owe money on their 7's...the Sprint deal is useless unless they are willing to pay off the balances. If I hand it over to Sprint, I'm still on the hook for the unpaid balance.

Which is far less than the sticker price for the new phone.

Is a Sprint promo enough for the other carriers to match it? Last year, T-mobile started this and everyone else quickly followed suit with the same promo (although, last year, it was the prior 2 iPhone models you could trade in). We'll have to see whether Sprint is enough of a nudge for the other carriers to follow suit.

T-Mo was my first choice, but for our needs, was too expensive. Their unlimited deal was fantastic - if you had 4 people who use a lot of data. It's just me, my wife and her mother. I'm the only one who uses any data at all and I don't use much at all. Between home and work, I'm on wifi almost all the time.

You basically you're selling your iPhone 7 for $350. Then you're jumping into a worst network in the US. I just joined them and so far that's my experience slow network almost unusable. They got me into joining the free for 12 months and I'm glad it's free or else it would be a much worse experience.

My wife wants to switch to the 8 from her 7, which she already owns on Sprint. However, I told her not to until either MS or Apple fix the issue with the mail app connecting to Exchange on iOS 11. If you upgraded to 11, it may work fine. If you're starting from scratch on 11, good luck. You will not be able to reply to or forward emails often. Something changed protocol wise that prevents it from working. Sure you can use the Outlook app as a workaround, but then you can't disable conversation view and that sucks too.

No. You're giving Sprint your iPhone 7, and paying $175 for an iPhone 8, which is yours to keep if you stay with Sprint for 18 months. You're basically getting a $525 value trade-in.

The way they're getting you to stay in leu of a contract is that your lease payments are $29.17 each for 18 months. Sprint will give you a credit of $29.17 each month for 18 months.

If you quit Sprint, the credits end but you still owe those $29.17 payments.

At the end of the lease, the amount 'paid' is 18 months x $29.17 = $525. For an additional $175, you can keep the iPhone 8 and do with it what you want. If you DON'T pay the $175, then you need to give the phone back to Sprint.

T-Mobile is still the worst when it comes to coverage, sprint actually has decent coverage, better than T-Mobile but the problem with sprint is they oversell their capacity, that’s why they are horribly slow.

I used T-Mobile for a few weeks earlier this year and they are certainly fast, driving from Ohio to Florida the coverage was quite bad.

I don't get the hate for Sprint. I converted from ATT because they were throttling my grandfathered "unlimited" plan. I don't have any problems with connections and the speed is pretty fast. But the best thing is I don't have to worry about overage or throttling. Plus, Sprint has a pretty good international plan, which I've used in Europe and Asia. Did I mention it was a lot cheaper than ATT?

I did the switch from ATT to Sprint last year and it’s like going back to Edge speeds. I’m not sure their LTE actually means anything! I can’t wait to leave sprint!

Not a deal, give them your iPhone 7 that you own to LEASE an iPhone 8? On the worst carrier in America?!?
Seriously! I wouldn't have Sprint if this was for the iPhone X. Not worth it. o_O

Depends on where you live. I live where most people live. Where Sprint is the worst, no matter how you slice it. ;)

Finally someone who actually looks at a deal and intelligently comments vs. other posters saying so many uninformed thing. (I swear that you really have to dig in the forums these days to find useful information - it does exist, just harder to uncover vs. years ago, but I digress.)

$525 for an iPhone 7 without any hassle isn't bad. This is a decent deal if you don't want to sell your iPhone 7 yourself (or your phone isn't in the best condition). You can probably get more if you sell it yourself or if you have a non-base model 7, but some people would rather take a little less for the added convenience.
