True story....I've had a Sprint 4S since launch and have never been able to upload an Instagram photo once while on 3G. It always times out because the connection is so horrible. This happens in 4-5 bar areas too.

4-5 bar areas? LOL. You do know that signal bars have nothing to do with data right? Thats for voice, not data...I have zero problems with Instagram or any app really with my 4s. You must be in an area that doesn't get great data service, sucks.

As a Sprint customer, I will say this is awesome news! :D To those saying Sprint sucks, not sure what you are basing that on. I did the ultimate test for any carrier service, drove cross country twice. CA, AZ, NM, TX, LA, MS, AL,GA, FL, TN, AR, OK....I had my HTC Evo at the time and we were using it as a hotspot for the laptops and iPad that my friend had going nearly the whole time.

I did a similar gig with the same results. I drove from Chicago to Atlanta, and not once though the entire trip did I find a dead spot. My phone was being used almost the entire 12 hours by several different people in the car. While sprint is certainly slower, it is likely one of the most reliable services around, which is really what I need.

That's because you were using a HTC Evo and not a 4S. Sprint 3G service is very well known to be crap-tastic with the 4S while reliable on other phones. Just check out this 165 page thread about the subject on the official Sprint forums:

Which LTE speeds? Some people are posting LTE speeds that are slower than what some people get on their iPhone 4S on HSPA+ networks whereas as others have speeds in the 30-50 Mbits/sec range.

If your LTE speeds on Sprint end up being under 10 Mbits/sec then can you really call it LTE anymore? Is the unlimited data a false bargain if the link speeds and ping are too slow to stream data?

Like the poster above, I would be happy with a constant 5 Mbits/sec down from sprint if it was unlimited. My "unlimited" from ATT is now starting to get capped at 3GB of which I rarely get above 3 Mbits/sec.

Think I'm going to stick with Verizon. I wonder how long sprint can afford to offer unlimited LTE. Hope it's not AT&T all over again where sprint stops offering it before the first batch of 2 year contracts are even up.

I was on 3G the whole time, never used 4G. My 4s gets better reception in spots that my Evo ever did. The radio in the iPhone is better than the radio in the Evo. I don't pay attention to sppedtests, they are highly inaccurate and not representative of real world usage. I tested the Note against my 4s to see which was faster web browsing. The 4s was just as fast, sometimes faster than the Note on AT&Ts 4G LTE. Of course if i used them both as hotspots or streaming Netflix I am sure the LTE would have been much faster. However, I don't do that really and even if I did, that 5GB limit on LTE would be gone in a week.

I don't care about including LTE. I'm eating the $350 ETF fee when the iPhone 5 is released and switching to AT&T or Verizon. People tried to warn me how bad Sprint was before I signed up with them but I didn't listen. There's no point in having unlimited data when it takes 1+ minute for web page on your 4S to load.

You're going to be really upset when you try and upload that photo and it takes up your entire monthly data cap. :D

I did the reverse drive Atlanta to Bloomington and had similar results. Years ago Sprint sucked major balls for service. Now call quality is the best of all, from my perspective.

If they had LTE in Detroit by the time the new iPhone came out I would switch.

So what is the use of LTE or 4G if your having all the time to worry you went over. This is innovation, really not impressed.

It's really unfortunate that Sprint decided to back WiMAX instead of LTE initially. They'd likely be on par with Verizon and Sprint in terms of LTE coverage if they hadn't. One has to wonder what they were thinking.

At the time WiMax made sense, and it still does, LTE is been push around a lot but I don't really see where we are getting the promised speeds. Anyone really getting LTE speeds in real world situations?

Why is this news? My dad was able to keep his unlimited when he moved from a Droid to a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon....

We will just have to wait and see what speed Sprint's 4G LTE will be when it rolls out. I'm hoping they do it right. I don't have a problem if I only get 10Mbps as long as it is unlimited. I think $30 for 4GB is a blatant rip off. Also with LTE speeds of 20-40Mbps you can burn through that 4GB real fast.

Is sprint actually making the change to LTE or are the just not calling it wimax anymore and telling us its LTE

Seriously what is wrong with WiMAX? It has a max theoretical DL of around 40mbps, which is more then what most LTE providers are providing. Sprint and all of the other US based carriers really need to focus on updating their tower back haul. For example, my sprint CDMA rev B phone is capable of speeds up to around 3.1 Mbps, but typical speedtests are around .5-.75 Mbps. If I am not reaching top speeds with a 3G connection, what is LTE going to do? They should be laying multi gigabit lines to the cell towers before LTE is even considered.

There is nothing wrong with WiMAX, but at the time they were one of the (very) few carriers pursuing it. Most carriers were already on the LTE bandwagon. The only problem with WiMAX is it has no support and they were fools to try to push it. They haven't even begun to feel the pain. LTE is already in most devices at this point, and it seems likely the iPhone will be next. Sprint will still have virtually no LTE coverage by the time the next iPhone's out.

At LTE speeds who cares. Coverage on the other hand...

With SPRINT, it very much depends on where you live since their network is not nearly as vast as VERIZON & ATT.

For instance, my city was a SPRINT test market for LTE and one of the first 4G markets in the country if not the first, so that's awesome news for me.

But it probably won't apply to people in cities or particularly rural areas where SPRINT coverage is lame. It all depends on where you live.

Oh SWEET! Now I'll have an unlimited 2 mbps instead of 0.37!!

Oh I wish I wasn't laughing because this is true! While Sprint has really been good to me from a customer service point of view their data speeds in my area are horrible. If I hit 500kbps down I do back-flips of joy.

Who is on Sprint anyway?

I'm sure their LTE will be the slowest out of them all.

I am. And nope. Their LTE will be fine. Yes, their 3G CRAWLS....

I'm just happy I have unlimited on sprint, so even if they get rid of it later, I'll get grandfathered into a new plan so when apple releases an LTE iPhone... :D I'll get LTE and unlimited.

Currently, I don't mind the crappy 3G... I'm near wifi 24/7....
