Using on old Mac mini - intel i5 and Safari takes an age to load or do anything useful. Today had interesting address/text appear in safari after the history/java caches had been cleared, a fresh boot and Safari opened with a new page which had 'Honest John' in the address bar before going blank. Also after a fresh boot the monitor/video reboots itself now for no reason - ie. goes black with energy star logo as if it has been switch off and then comes back on? Safari also takes an absolute age to warm up and become useful and isn't running any extensions. Could I have some spyware of a virus?

And a web inspector window now opens in safari with no provocation, takes an age to load to then disappear before any content appears. The machine had been retired for a couple of years and now I think I'm remembering why but a worry over what maybe throwing these spanners into what should be viable machine for simple browsing

Back up any data you want to keep and do a Restore. You don't indicate the age or OS version but this link to Apple's YouTube support channel may help.

It does sound like some kind of malware. Have you run any malware tools on it yet? You can do free scans on demand with Malwarebytes.

Just HOW "old" is the Mini (what year)?

How much RAM is installed?

What KIND of drive (HDD or SSD), and how large is it?

How much free space left on the drive?

What version of the OS are you using?
