Someone I know recently asked me if it's possible that he might have a trojan or some kind of spyware on his MacBook Air. He said that it started to run slow recently, and saw strange activity with his email (ended up changing password using another computer).

Is there a way to scan for anything like this on a Mac?

Well there's a couple trojans, but not likely the issue. You can freely download iAntivirus and let that run to see if it happens to find anything trojan related.

Other than that though you can use Activity Monitor to see what processes are chewing up the CPU and potentially Console to see what kind of activity is going on. Troubleshooting can be time intensive.

Follow angelwatt's advice, and well, I don't really think that even if your friend had some trojan it'd really cause some notable slowdown...those things quite stealthy.
