Blasphemy! It's "Square Enix" without hyphen "-".
When I started my career at SQEX, that was the very first thing they wanted us to always get right.

It wasn't always "Square Enix," though. Used to just be "Square," until merging with Enix about a decade ago. I've got quite a few vintage (1980s-1990s) FF collectibles that all have the solo "Square" trademark. Those were the heady days of Japanese game development.

Square Enix is just using space limitation as an excuse for their laziness. They just don't want to recreate the cutscenes and visual content which were not optimized for mobile in the first place.

What can you expect from lazily porting a game made almost 20 years ago? They realised that they would have to recreate some visuals when all they want from releasing it to iOS is to make money.

Another remake of FFIV. Boy, oh boy, Square is really milking their two cash cows 4 and 7.

Even after saying that, I caved an brought into the remakes and add-ons of these two franchises. I've got IV the Complete Collection and Crisis Core on PSP . Hail, I've got ALL the Final Fantasy Games even the horrid X-2. I've even based my console purchase solely on FF games. Depending on how good this remake is, I might have to get an iPad mini.

Viva la Spoony Bard.:):):)

I totally agree, FF6 is a must have... it's the Final Fantasy I'm waiting on iOS
My kid are begging for this. I had to break out the SNES last week so they could play it again, they didn't like an emulator on the computer. And they weren't even alive when it came out.

Wires everywhere in the living room....

it's not a space issue

An iOS app has a max of 2GB. As FF7 was 4 CD's, each 750MB, that would result in Square to remove 1/3 of the game. Even with modern compression techniques, I don't think that is feasible.

No.

Ps vita version of FF7 = 1.37gb
Pc 2012 version of FF7 = 1.41gb

If they didn't remake the cutscenes for the vita or the pc, they're not going to remake them for iOS.

My copy of XCOM is 3.2gb and requires 3.8gb to run properly, the 2gb app restriction can be, and has been gotten around many different ways. Also, two other square-enix titles; DrakeRider and Dues Ex only take up 1.5gb; and their graphical assets are significantly more complex (i.e. bigger).

They're stalling because it's not done; plain and simple.

And this may be the reason why they don't have time to release the game on iOS...
