MP 7,1 SSD adapters and kyro m.2 please explain

So before I got my 2019 Mac Pro I installed a SSD on a kyro m.2 blade in one of my 5,1 MP. In my nMP I have three SSD in cheap OWC sleds. I’m not sure why I had to use the kyro and whether I should now. Is it due to heat? Am I going to burn the SSDs up?
 
As I made a research before MacPro purchase, not all adapters are working properly with MP7,1 and as they not provide heat sinks - SSD drives can overheat, so performance will be affected and in extreme situation drives could be fried.

I've seen some back and forth between Samsung EVO 860 and 960. I have three 860s installed in the 2019 Mac Pro without heat sink. Is there an issue with 860?

And is the R/W speed of 860 acceptable for you?
960 is faster, but unless you don't edit 4K footage you should be happy with 860 you own. I don't have any experience with this model.
 
I bought the when I was still using the 5,1 MP as my main machine. The I. Ought a few OWC sleds and installed them in the new MP.
 
I think that under "normal use" the SSD won't get too hot. The nMP has ample cooling and the only time I'd be worried is if I had some processes running that required a constant reading or writing action over an extended amount of time. I assume some heavy video rendering might fall under that category.
If this is not a correct assessment I am happy to be corrected.
 
I have a recording studio. The macs often are in 24/7 but rarely do any prolonged extensive work. Never very prolonged. Thank you.

You should be fine. I do music production as well as illustration/design including some 3D work. I also have one m2 blade on a kryo adapter. So far I have not seen any issues.
 
I wish there was a better way I could utilize this. Like buying new Evo 960 replacement SSD abd putting them in the kryo and using the 860 in an external enclosure. But that’s how I’m using my old spinning drives.

Why not a second kryo? No more spare PCI slots?
 
I do. I was thinking of replacing them all with the kryo. Probably will. Just thinking out loud here. Lol. I really don’t need that much storage. And I want to back up outside the Mac. I should back up in the cloud but i don’t. You know, if the house burns down I’m screwed.

For that purpose I use traditional HDs externally for backups. These don't need to be ultra fast.
