So its on the way lol, how do I switch over without really losing anything? Thanks

I did a fresh install because I didn't really have anything too important on before. I put my hd in an external enclosure and just transfered the applications I wanted.

But if I just put the drive in right when I get it would I be able to install osx on a blank drive?

----------

put it this way, will I be able to access ML recovery on a blank harddrive? Because then I could just make a time machine back up lol

What if I just install snow leopard because I'm sure I could boot to the snow leopard dvd and then from there download mountain lion?

So my Crucial M4 is on the way for ML.
Now, I know this has been asked many times but I can't find a definite answer:

- Should I enable TRIM?
- If yes, which method is best: the TRIM enabler app or the Terminal command line?

My use of the Mac is divided between casual use such as browsing and email, and heavy Aperture use, with the photos and app on the SSD. I occasionally do some editing in iMovie too.

Thanks,

According to Crucial, enabling TRIM is not necessary on the M4 drives. You just need to leave your system idle (without sleeping) from time to time so that the active garbage collection can work.

Speaking of SSD's, Newegg has the Crucial M4 128GB drives listed today for $89.99.

That's the newer 7mm model. I just ordered one-- that's a no-brainer upgrade for my old Macbook Pro. All my media is on my Mac Mini now so I don't need all the space.... fresh install of Mountain Lion and it'll be right quick!

Newegg also offers "$15 off with promo code HARDOCPX725C, ends 7/31" on Crucial M4 512GB SSDs.

I just snagged the aforementioned deal on Newegg and I am also purchasing a 15" cMBP 2.3 soon. I read somewhere that Samsung is really good with their firmware, not sure how to do it, though

I also bought it last night. even though I am still learning about SSDs but it was too tempting to resist. Now need some tips on maintaining this SSD and also abt keeping firmware updated.

Quick thank you to those who answered my queries a couple of pages ago. Installed a Crucial M4 256GB today, and moved original HDD to the opti-bay. Works like a charm. Thanks for the advice and assistance.

Hi guys, I'm a bit new to this. I have been looking for a guide on how to install Mountain Lion on a new SSD. I'm a bit confused since Mac doesn't have the traditional BIOS settings like on a PC. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Either clone ur HD with OSx to SSD with Carbon cloner etc or try booting from SSD and hold option key to download OS from Network.

It depends how you want to install it.

- If you're doing a clean install you need to burn the ML installer on a dual layer dvd or make a bootable usb drive ( they are plenty of tutorials on how to make either one. Just google it or search the forum). After, just hold the option key on start up to select from where to boot, format the drive to Mac OS Extended with disk utility (if you haven't formatted yet) and install.

- Or you can just clone the existing drive to the SSD using Carbon Copy Cloner.

Put in the new SSD, hold down command-R when booting. It fetches ML over the internet.

Hi people I have an Intel 520 120Gb SSD running, are there any special settings that I need to have on Mountain Lion to make full use of it? My 4k speeds are way low!!

HI guys, i just finished installing SSD and Mountain Lion. Do I need to any HDD specific features that are no longer needed for SSD on Mac? Like Spotlight for example? I had SSD on a Windows laptop before and I had to disable a bunch of features. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would turn off the "Put Hard Disks to Sleep When Possible" setting under System Preferences>Energy Saver.

I wouldn't bother disabling Spotlight if you use it often. I certainly won't be when I slap a 512GB M4 into my Mac.
