Hi all
Any chance that anybody grabbed a copy of the firmware update instructions before they were pulled down? I've downloaded the firmware itself from the link at the start of this thread but the instructions don't come parceled in. Can anybody help me out?
Many thanks
First, backup you hard drive, because the update will wipe it.
Then:
1) Once you burn the ISO, boot from it (by holding the C key down during startup).
2) Follow the instructions on the screen. It will start by scanning for drives, saying it can't find something, blah blah blah. Eventually, you'll get to a point where you have to type "yes" Then, a minute later, you have to type "yes again"
3) Once the update is complete, it will tell you and you'll be at a command line (A

. I had no idea what to do there, but eventually determined that I need to just hit the power button.
After this, you'll need to boot from your Snow Leopard (or MacBook Pro) install disk and reformat the drive with DiskUtility to GUID. Then, if you want:
- Disable Journaling
- Enable "noatime"
- any other peformance tweaks you're interested in doing
I think this update works fine on a Mac. All the issues others are having seem to be due to various motherboard configs that Crucial didn't test for. I think this is the first time I've heard of a command-prompt based firmware update working better on a Mac then on a PC!
