im holding out for the next MBP update, and wanted to go with an SSD drive this time around as well. I figured by now the tech has matured enough, but reading around and looking at reviews it seems like manufactures still have not figured out this whole controller business and how to deal with drives degrading performance as it filled up. (and MAC OS X still does not have TRIM support)

Not to mention there are is a lot of talk about data corruption with these drives, and that is something i certainly cant accept for what I use my MBP for.

Guess ill have to wait a bit longer till intel comes out with its new revision of SSDs...

I've got an OCZ Agility in my MBP and it's performed well so far: nice and speedy. Now if only OSX had Trim support...

I might have to grit my teeth and stick with a 5400rpm HDD until this TRIM thing is sorted.

My "Estimated budget" for an SSD (cost of new high-end 17" MBP pending) is about 500 GBP.

Wow....

I may have to get one of these in March, with the new controller model you pretty much dont need TRIM and it whups intel's best....

Here

with intel planning a late 2010 refresh I think ill be grabbing up a 400GB one of these xD

Might as well place the order on the Asus.

You will not get any of the following:

16GB of ram
ATI 5870
BD reader or burner
Quad Core i7 CPU
Raid or dual HD option

If you know what's not going to be in the update,
then you obviously know what is going to be in the update.

What is going to be in the MacBook PRO update?
Maybe some PRO specs?

Take your time. :D

You can safely assume you won't get all the things on your list. I'd get the asus. If it turns out I'm wrong then I'll buy you the apple laptop you specified as an apology....

I'm not sure if I would recommend it. If our able to pay through the noise, then yes it's worth it. If you can't afford it then obviously its not worth it.
