I also installed the Seagate Hybrid XT. I wasn't expecting much, but ended up being very pleasantly surprised. The responsiveness is noticeably improved. When I drastically change the set up apps I run I can notice a small delay like I had before, but the cache adjusts very quickly. The short time it takes to readjust was also a pleasant surprise. I would put this drive in the no-brainer category for day-to-day responsiveness improvement.

How about SSD performance when ram swapping? In MBP we can only have 8GB ram, which isn't too much for big projects in Photoshop e.g. Is the SSD better than 7200 HDD even after months usage?

The SSD. I just bought a new macbook pro with the core i7 and 256 SSD. its lightning fast, and thats no exaggeration. It takes 19 seconds from pushing the power button to load the dock. The SSD's speed increase is remarkable

The SSD still wins

Both SSD's and HDD's have an "expiration date" so to speak, but they expire in different ways. When the HDD dies, its dead, useless. plain and simple. When an SSD goes, it does it differently. An SSD, because it uses flash memory, has a limited number of writes, not reads; so even after it dies and can no longer be written on, you can still retrieve data. performance does decrease with age and usage but you can get a good 5 or 6 years at least before these decreases in performance make themselves visible.
The SSD has a few advantages other than lightning speed. Its more power efficient, extremely quieter (my MBP is literally silent), and it runs cooler.

SSD's are so tempting. Anyone forsee a huge price drop before the holidays this year? :D

it would be nice, but i think its wishful thinking. memory usually takes a while to drop in price. who know though, an unexpected price drop isn't impossible
