Though I've a full tower aluminum case, and they're mounted in rubber O rings for isolation. (They really do help). ;)

Can you give me a bit more info on those O rings? I'm guessing they're optional, but would like to know more.

That one's simple. ;) But there's quite a few other solutions available as well. It just depends on the specific application (location, clearances,...). But I find the grommets are simple and rather inexpensive, so I use them when I can. :D
 
Yeah, I dunno if it would help in Mac Pro's thick aluminum case but acoustic foam velcro'ed in the right places of a typical tin or plastic case can make a pretty big difference. Velcro tape make's it removable so you can wash the dust out of it during your regular cleanings.
