wow.. looks like that SSD is rocking the random read speeds.. if only they could ramp them up for writing.

The Intel X25M drives provides insane performance for an MLC drive (comparable to SLC). See the AnandTech review…

well anyway, nice computer OP! Hope you enjoy it :)

I swear if some of you guys had your way this board would turn into a bed of roses filled with everyone telling everyone else how great their computers are.

Okay, maybe I was a little brash in the way I expressed what I was trying to say, but the reality is that spending $600 for a SMALLER disk which has been proven in countless benchmarks to be very similar in performance to a standard magnetic drive is a waste. I don't think there is any other way to express this. How can anyone justify spending more money on a lesser product?

To be honest I also don't really know what the OP wanted us to reply with. Did he just want an endless list of people saying "congratulations!!!"?

Your argument was that for the amount of money he spent, he could have had an MBP. What if he wanted the smaller form factor, and money doesnt happen to be an issue. Are you saying if you were in that position, you wouldnt have chosen the SSD as well? even if its the same performance? big deal. he can afford it. Also, SSD is quiet, ever consider that? get real, get tact, or gtfo. *gives you a bed of roses* =D

The quietness argument is a new one on me. I guess you SSD guys are scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to find reasons to justify your purchases. I've never, ever with any of my computers ever felt the desire to make the HDD quieter, mainly because the other components generate more noise.

My argument isn't really about what he could have had - it's the fact that he's spent more money to get a lesser product. Sure you've got increase speeds with random read, but is this really worth Apple's crazy (and inflated) asking price when you're getting less space than a standard disk?

Quieter drive is really just one of those fringe benefits. It is not really all that much of a benefit, but is worth noting for someone that might be interested in a completely silent disk.

I never knew you were 'meant' to wait for the HDD to spin down before moving it around.. does it really have any real world effect?
