SSD MBP April, 2010 15"

I have a 15" MBP that I'd like to ADD an SSD to (not replace the internal drive.) Is this possible? As the subject line says, 15" April, 2010 model.

Yes.

Do I have to remove the optical drive or is there room to add the SSD with the HDD still in place?

You have to remove the optical disk drive (ODD), as there is no room for an SSD, ODD, HDD, battery and logic board.
