Legit just bought the Samsung 750 EVO 500GB about 20 seconds ago :/
Jesus Christ, I just pressed the submit button and got an alert. Easy there, Tiger.

The 850 Evo isn't a bad SSD by any means. New 3D TLC NAND is better than the old TLC NAND, I simply prefer MLC NAND over the other. You can cancel your order or get it. I think the 850 Evo is good for 1,000 TB of data before it goes kaput.

Edit: Just looked it up. It's been tested to beyond 650 TB of data written, cell degradation starts at around 800 TB, and then it goes downhill at a slow rate. To be honest, I really wouldn't worry. It's got a 5 year warranty and Samsung replaces bad stuff without question. You probably won't hit 300 TB of data written before you get a new laptop or a new drive.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with TLC NAND. It just is not rated for as many write cycles as MLC NAND. Under any kind of normal usage, even that TLC NAND SSD will likely last much longer that your computer ever will.

See this and this.

Yep. I just have a preference. I also got into the SSD game very late, just a couple years ago. I let others pay the high price. You'll want to modify some stuff in OSX to keep misc. disk writes at bay. Windows also has to be "tuned" so it doesn't write to the drive excessively.

You should have zero problems with either Samsung or Crucial/Micron. Mostly because they make the majority of their competitors chips, too.

I understand if your are a pro doing something like video editing with very large files all day, it might be worth it... but for most users on here with a few year old Mac just used for light work, I just can't see buying a MLC drive that costs over 70% more. All that OS X tweaking is not necessary either and can cause its own problems.

Just pop your drive in and clone everything over then run "sudo trimforce enable" in Terminal to enable TRIM and that's it.

Well, actually, the MX200 is MLC and cheaper than the equivalent 850 EVO, or was I last checked.

The MX200 is a good drive and I have recommended it before. I was comparing the EVO to the Pro 850. The Samsung 750 is still less than all of them though and nothing really wrong with it.
