My SSD drive crashed in my Mid-2012(A1278). I replaced it with Samsung 870 EVO 250GB and restored the 870 EVO with Time Machine back up connected to USB port successfully. I connected the 870 EVO internally and started the macbook pro. It is really slow and booting time takes a long time. However, it runs fast when it is connected to USB port. What could be an issue?

The symptoms sound like you need to replace the internal SATA drive cable. Sometimes they get degraded with age and wear resulting in poor performance or complete failure. Check the iFixit site for instructions.

The original mechanical hard disk drive works fine.

yup this, I have a mid-2012 too and it had this problem, it's like €10 for the part and 30 minutes of your time to repair it if you do it yourself.
