I just upgraded my 2009 macbook pro from the stock 500gb hd to a samsung 830 SSD 256 gb model and it made a huge difference. I store all of my files, music, photos and video on a Western digital 500GB firewire portable drive and it works great.

Samsung 830 or if you have the cash the new 840 PRO.

I am getting one during the holidays, however, SSD is a storage device. Computer will start up faster and programs will load faster, but other CPU activities, that don't access the drive, NO difference.

That is why you see some of the benchmarks are the same with or without an SSD. The test is just CPU stuff. And that is why some of the benchmarks show hugh gain if the computer has SSD, mainly because of computer start up time and access time for files.

I will not get an SSD until I can afford a 512, and I want the 840 PRO, because I refuse to give up storage for just a faster starting machine.
