SSD vs RAID controller

SO I had the SSD fever but when I started to look at pricing, I asked myself "Why?"

I am curious to know if the 200+ I will drop on a SSD would be better to go towards a decent RAID 0 card (4 port) so that I can have a fast OS raid 0 set as well as a fast scratch disc?

I have 6 1TB WD blacks kicking around along with some 640gig blacks and a few 500gig SG and WD.

quad core MP running 10.6.4
ati 4870

I use PS4 & FCP 7

I wouldn't trust my OS on RAID 0.

Why not?

It's just the OS. You just have to re-install. No biggie.

To me it's not worth the extra money and additional risk of failure just to have my apps open a little bit faster. Last time I had to re-install my OS plus apps it took me the better part of a day.
