I currently have a 512GB SSD with about 218GB available.

All I have saved is music and photos. I just ordered a new MBP with only 256GB. I don't understand how I use up so much space with just pictures and music...

What do you suggest? Clean out my iTunes?

What are you using to manage your photos? If iPhoto and you edit almost every photo it can take a lot more space as iPhoto creates a new image with the changes.

it is iPhoto, but I don't edit. I just store all of my pictures (kids, family, vacation, etc...).

I don't have any documents saved (zero!), so it's itunes, iphoto, and applications.

Not sure why it is so hard for people to give descriptive titles. And in this case, it is really nothing to do with SSD, but in storage/capacity.

As to your issue with photos - you might want to think them down. I am guessing with that many you have tons of duplicate photos - you know when you click, click, click to get the right one.

Also, unless you are using them, you could easily offload them to an external drive.
