This is my 16” M1 Max. I have never cleaned the display yet. This is the first times. All dirt was removed, but I discovered one stain doesn’t want to go away. I cleaned with a microfiber cloth, just like Apple recommended.

Seems I have a problem with the oleophobic layer. Hello, staingate! Now I need to hand it in for repair and wait 8 weeks. Greeeaaaat!

Are you out of the return window?
Luckily, not. I bought it with Coolblue and they have a 30 day return window. I am on day 28. They will try to replace the screen within a week or I will get my money back.

Problem is, there is a huge waiting time for this MacBook. I don’t want to wait until December 16.

I agree. I will ask for return and refund tomorrow. I would have to wait longer, but reparing an almost 4000 EUR machine already is crazy.

So, I will keep an eye on the stock at all channels and also put an order at Apple already, better already stand in line than waiting even longer.

I know we have to buy for our needs. But this is why I am glad I always get the base model - easier exchange.

I will get my money back and thus reserved the same model with Apple Store Amsterdam. It is silver and not space grey, but I don’t care. :)

How can anyone figure out what that photo even shows? It is a terrible photo with lights and other stuff around it.

I agree about a return and exchange however.

That’s what you get when it’s evening and the lights are on.

This is a picture with daylight. It’s exactly the faded dot under the window, in the middle. The other specks are just dust.

did you notice any other removable/cleanable dust or dirt after you take off the paper on screen during unboxing?

It would make sense for users and for Apple if they had a policy like "since your machine is well within the repair window, we will contact you when we can do a repair/return in a 3-day window. It may be a few months." Then you wouldn't have downtime, and they wouldn't have to swap in/out brand new machines. Ah well...
