I just opened the box for my Apple Watch and immediately noticed dings and scratches on my Apple Watch when trying to install the bands. Has anybody experienced this before? Now I can’t unsee it. It irks me to have blemishes on my new $1200 watch.

$1200 for the stainless? Which model did you purchase?

It likely occurred from the factory. Apples packing process is very secure, so it probably was mishandled at some point or it happened during the manufacturing process. Either way, what you can do (assuming it’s the regular 316 L stainless), is use a Cape Cod cloth that will polish out the scratches. Otherwise, just contact Apple, explain the situation and they can exchange the watch for you if you’re within the 14 days. Seems rather obvious how to handle this accordingly.

Even the Ti is cheaper that that.

Right, there is _no_ $1200 stainless Apple Watch. The Hermès Apple Watch starts at $1250 for the cheapest version entry level. The OP seems to have their pricing mixed up, unless they’re including the price of the bands with the purchase of their Apple Watch, which still wouldn’t make sense here.

$1200 for SS? I assume you got the SBSS with SB link bracelet (with tax). In this case you can't buff out the scratches and will have to return your watch for a new one. Since you likely bought the bundle they will probably ask you to return the band for exchange/refund as well.
Good luck OP.

Whoops, I meant to say over $1400. And I should’ve said it’s in Canadian dollars. But that’s not the point of this thread.

This is disappointing, since I have to board the train again tomorrow. Which is a long ride.

That would explain the Canadian currency. Anyways, return the watch in exchange for a new one prior to the 14 day return period.

Yeah, that really sucks. Guess you have to make the trip to return and buy again, hopefully next one has no issues.

My first S0 arrived with scratches was back in 2015. Sent it straight back to Apple for immediate replacement. I don't mind scratches if they are down to me but not on a brand new product.

That’s how I think too!

Makes sense. My SS 40mm with a sport band was under $1200 CDN including  care, all in.
It would make sense to be close to $1400 CDN if it was a 44mm with one of the higher end bands with AC.
I’d return it for sure. S
