I have an older GPS Apple Watch. Was thinking of upgrading to a Series 9. I’ve always liked the stainless steel models but didn’t know want to hook it up to cellular. Can you have a stainless steel model and just use it like a gps version and not hook up to cellular. Thanks.

Before getting the Ultra I always had the stainless steel version (series 0, 4 and 6). I loved it, looked amazing with leather and metal bands. you won't regret it!

Did you have yours connected to cellular?

I have an SS S9, and it is not connected to cellular nor do I want to have it connected.

Ok thanks! It must let you bypass that in setup and works just like a gps version then? Thanks.

Another question for stainless steel owners. I’ve seen some people complain about how the stainless steel scratches easily. Does it? I like the looks of the graphite stainless steel and like the idea of the sapphire display, that’s kind of why I want a stainless steel one.

Nope never felt the need to as I always have my phone on me. Even when I would go out running I would just download podcasts and songs to the watch at home and just use that as entertainment.

The stainless steel material does show some scratches over time, but it's very easy to buff and make it look like new using one of these:

Cape Cod Polishing Cloth

As for the screen I never ever got a single scratch or ding on it. the saphire crystal is as good as advertised. And believe me there were times when I dinged the watch really hard against the corner of a wall or something else.... and I thought for sure I had scratched it, but nothing.

Same here. I own only Cellular Watches but don’t use that functionality, but it’s good to have the possibility for emergency calling

I've always had cellular with my aluminum and stainless.

* I can place a phone call without my phone being nearby.
* I can take text or phone call if I forget my phone.
* I can use Apple pay if I forget my phone.
* these benefits are very rare occasions for me.

More important, I do like the dressier look of my current gold SS. End of the day, it's still a disposable device.

I use to at one point have Cellular but ditched it because of the ability to use wifi calling...when I am at certain places without my Phone I use that feature if my watch is connected to Wifi..Ex. Target, Wallmart, the Mall, Winn Dixie, Publix, Panera, Starbucks, Sams Club, Costco, Bahama Breeze.....and many more places that offer free Wifi. I can just leave my phone in the car.

Apple Pay has no cellular dependency.

I had a silver SS AW4 that was covered in scratches by the time I broke the screen. I have a black SS AW7 now, and it's completely scratch-free. The black SS coating is awfully hard; much harder than the uncoated SS.

You can use Apple Pay without any form of connection btw
